About

Rayman Advance for Game Boy Advance brings the original Rayman adventure to Nintendo's handheld as a side-scrolling platformer. Mr. Dark has stolen the Great Protoon, broken the harmony of Rayman's world, and scattered the Electoons who once surrounded it. With Betilla the Fairy weakened, Rayman sets out to rescue the captive Electoons and stop Mr. Dark.

Rayman runs, jumps, crouches, and attacks by throwing his detached fist at enemies, switches, and distant targets. Betilla gradually restores abilities that broaden the route through the game: a longer-reaching punch, ledge hanging, swinging from rings, helicopter hair for controlled descents, and running. Earlier stages contain routes and cages that become reachable only after these abilities are earned.

The journey moves through the Dream Forest, Band Land, Blue Mountains, Picture City, and the Caves of Skops before the Candy Chateau becomes available. Each world combines its own hazards, moving platforms, enemies, and boss encounter with colorful cartoon scenery. Cages of Electoons are tucked through the levels, and freeing them is essential to opening the final stretch of the quest.

Tings serve as the main collectible; gathering one hundred grants an extra life. The game asks for careful timing around pits, projectiles, and enemies, while checkpoints and the world map provide the structure for revisiting levels. Battery-backed saves and a password option let players return with their progress, powers, and rescued Electoons intact.

Digital Eclipse adapted the 1995 game for the Game Boy Advance rather than creating a new Rayman story. The port preserves the original's level progression and core mechanics while reworking its art, animation, music, and presentation for a cartridge-based handheld. A brighter, higher-contrast palette helps the game read on the original GBA screen, and story scenes use still images instead of the fuller video presentation found in several earlier versions.

The GBA version also smooths some of the original's tougher edges. Rayman begins with more health, has more lives and continues available, and encounters additional checkpoints, platforms, and other adjustments in selected stages. These changes make this portable version a distinct take on the first Rayman while keeping its search for cages, power-driven exploration, and showdown with Mr. Dark at the center.
