About

FIFA World Cup: Germany 2006 for Game Boy Advance is EA Sports’ officially licensed football game for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. Developed for the handheld by Exient Entertainment and released in North America on April 24, 2006, it turns the international tournament into a portable soccer simulation. Players select from a broad roster of national sides and use licensed, period-appropriate team and player information to pursue a place at football’s biggest finals.

The central World Cup mode can begin with the finals in Germany or with the qualifying campaign. That latter option gives players a route to take a country through qualification and into the tournament, including nations that did not reach the real 2006 finals. Groups can be arranged through seeded draws, altered by swapping teams, or left to the game’s selection. Tournament progress is saved, allowing a campaign to be resumed later, while individual fixtures can be simulated when players want to move the bracket forward.

On the pitch, matches use a side-on view designed for the Game Boy Advance screen. Passing, running, shooting, tackles, substitutions, and formation changes form the match-to-match routine. Team management extends beyond picking a starting side: the game offers up to 18 formations and settings for more attacking or defensive approaches. Players can also pause to consult basic statistics and adjust their tactics, adding a layer of squad direction around the immediate arcade-style action.

Kick Off provides a more flexible one-match alternative to the tournament. Before playing, users can change half length, choose pitch conditions, and turn wind effects on or off. The mode also permits custom score scenarios, useful for setting up a late comeback or protecting a large lead, and it can jump ahead to the conclusion of a match. Injuries and bookings are among the settings that can be enabled or disabled, while replays offer camera and zoom control and post-match highlights revisit key moments.

FIFA World Cup: Germany 2006 also includes a dedicated penalty shootout option and Global Challenge. Global Challenge presents set match situations, asking the player to complete a particular task under the conditions supplied. Completing challenges and using teams from different continents in the World Cup mode unlocks poster rewards. Two Game Boy Advance systems, each with a copy of the game and connected by a link cable, can be used for multiplayer matches, preserving a head-to-head option on Nintendo’s portable hardware.

The Game Boy Advance edition shares the World Cup setting, licensed teams, and tournament focus of the wider 2006 FIFA World Cup release, but it is its own handheld adaptation. It does not include the official World Cup venues available in some versions on more powerful systems. Its menus, music, match options, and replay tools instead package the event for short portable sessions. The game appeared as FIFA World Cup: Germany 2006 in North America, while European and Australian releases used the title 2006 FIFA World Cup; Japan received 2006 FIFA World Cup Deutsch Taikai.

As a FIFA series tie-in built around a specific World Cup, the GBA game is especially centered on national-team competition rather than a club season. Its qualification path, adjustable World Cup draw, quick exhibition options, penalties, and scenario challenges let players approach the 2006 event in several ways. Whether taking an established qualifier toward the trophy or changing history with a country that missed Germany, FIFA World Cup: Germany 2006 gives the Game Boy Advance a focused international-football tournament experience.
