OpenTyrian is a vertical shoot 'em up game. The player pilots a spaceship equipped with various weapons and a shield that slowly recharges when damaged, all powered by a generator whose strength determines the firing rate and shield recharge speed. The money earned is actually the player's score, which increases by destroying various enemies and collecting various bonuses. This money can be used to purchase or upgrade various weapons, shields, generators, or even replace the ship to obtain stronger armor, via a menu called “Upgrade Ship” between each level.
