About

WWF Attitude for Game Boy Color is a 1999 professional wrestling game developed by Crawfish Interactive and published by Acclaim Entertainment. Based on the World Wrestling Federation's late-1990s Attitude campaign, it brings a roster of 20 WWF personalities to Nintendo's color handheld in a compact 2D format. Although it shares a name and license with the PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and Dreamcast releases, this is its own handheld version rather than a scaled-down presentation of their polygonal matches.

Matches are viewed from an angled, scrolling perspective, with the D-pad used to position a wrestler around the ring. Players combine button inputs for strikes, tie-ups, grapples, throws, and other attacks, then work to wear down an opponent before attempting a decisive pinfall. Wrestlers have individual finishing moves, and earning the opportunity to use one adds another strategic moment to a bout. The game also lets players run, interact with the ring environment, climb the cage when appropriate, and tag a partner during tag-team contests.

WWF Attitude offers several ways to get into the ring. Training mode provides a place to practise controls and moves, while exhibition-style single, tag-team, and cage matches support quick bouts with the licensed lineup. The biography section supplies basic profiles for the featured wrestlers, including their billed information and finishing move, making the roster easy to explore from the cartridge's menus.

Longer play is centered on Challenge and Career modes. In Challenge, a selected wrestler begins at the bottom of the rankings and must beat higher-ranked opponents to earn a WWF Championship opportunity; cage bouts against lower-ranked rivals are part of that climb. Career mode instead asks the player to fight through the other 19 wrestlers in succession. King of the Ring adds an eight-wrestler, single-elimination tournament, giving the Game Boy Color game a focused bracket format alongside its standard matches.

Progress in the two extended modes is recorded with passwords, a practical choice for the platform that allows a run to be resumed without a battery-backed save. This approach, together with the portable controls and short-match structure, gives WWF Attitude a different rhythm from its contemporaneous home-console counterparts. It also builds on Crawfish Interactive's earlier Game Boy WWF War Zone, adding Game Boy Color presentation, new modes, and a refreshed group of WWF stars.

The roster reflects the WWF's 1999 era, with names such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Mankind, The Undertaker, Triple H, Kane, and Sable among the playable wrestlers. That lineup and the licensed setting place the game firmly in the Attitude Era, while its dedicated handheld design makes it a separate entry for players looking for WWF wrestling on Game Boy Color rather than the feature set of the console versions.
