About

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for Game Boy Color is a 2000 skateboarding game developed by Natsume and published by Activision. It adapts the name and roster of the original game for Nintendo's handheld rather than reproducing the PlayStation version's 3D courses and objective structure.

The game alternates between two purpose-built styles of play. Half Pipe Mode uses a side view with a ramp at either end, while the race-focused courses scroll vertically from an overhead perspective. In the racing view, moving onto a ramp launches the skater automatically.

Half Pipe Mode is a high-score challenge. Tournament Mode spans five vertically scrolling stages, where the player races three computer-controlled skaters and aims to finish with the best placing. Tricks in the race sections appear as brief static images.

Rival Mode and Versus Mode use a single Tournament-style course and one opponent. Rival Mode supplies a computer opponent, whereas Versus Mode is for two players connected by a Game Link Cable.

The playable professionals are Tony Hawk, Bob Burnquist, Kareem Campbell, Rune Glifberg, Bucky Lasek, Chad Muska, Andrew Reynolds, Geoff Rowley, Elissa Steamer, and Jamie Thomas. Their displayed attributes include speed, acceleration, braking, and jump ability.

The Game Boy Color controls differ between its two styles. In the half-pipe, left and right move the skater while the action buttons rotate in the air and perform tricks. During races, left and right steer, up activates a speed boost, A ollies, and B brakes; directional button combinations with A or B trigger grabs and grinds.
