About

Lemmings & Oh No! More Lemmings is the 2000 Game Boy Color compilation of the original Lemmings and its Oh No! More Lemmings follow-up. The handheld edition was developed by J-Wing and published by Take-Two Interactive; in Japan it appeared as Lemmings VS. Rather than a new sequel, it brings the series' real-time rescue puzzles to a portable format, with the two classic sets presented under one cartridge.

Every stage begins with a stream of green-haired walkers spilling from a hatch. Left alone, they keep moving, turn at solid walls and march into drops, water, fire or traps. The objective is to shepherd a required number to the exit before time expires, while working with the release rate, the hazards in the landscape and a strictly limited stock of jobs. A solution often depends on preparing a route for the crowd while choosing one or two lemmings to do the dangerous work.

The familiar eight abilities are the heart of the puzzle design. Climbers scale vertical walls and Floaters survive long falls; Bombers sacrifice themselves after a short countdown to remove terrain. Blockers turn the following line around, Builders lay staircases, and Bashers, Miners and Diggers carve horizontally, diagonally downward and straight down. Each assignment is permanent and each skill supply is finite, so a misplaced blocker or an unnecessary tunnel can make a level unsalvageable.

On Game Boy Color, the directional pad moves the on-screen crosshair and scrolls the view through the wider stages, while the buttons are used to choose an icon and give that job to the lemming beneath the cursor. The compact display makes watching the route, the skill panel, the timer and the rescue quota part of the challenge. The game also allows a quick level reset by holding A and B together, useful when a plan fails before the timer runs out.

The cartridge is a selective compilation rather than the complete 120-level Lemmings plus 100-level Oh No! More Lemmings catalogue. It contains 170 stages, leaving 50 of the combined total behind, and organizes them across the nine named difficulty groups: Fun, Tricky, Taxing and Mayhem from Lemmings, followed by Tame, Crazy, Wild, Wicked and Havoc from Oh No! More Lemmings. Completing a stage leads into the next puzzle of its rank, with the later groups demanding tighter rescue percentages, harsher hazards and more exact use of the tools.

Passwords make that long portable campaign practical: a code shown after progress can be entered later to resume at the corresponding point instead of replaying earlier stages. The GBC conversion therefore preserves the central single-player planning game and the two source campaigns, but changes their scale and presentation for the system: fewer lemmings can be active at once, stages must be surveyed by scrolling, and the selected level list replaces the full combined archive. The result is a color handheld version built around careful cursor control, memory for passwords and repeated attempts at compact, hazardous puzzles.
