About

Mario Bros. (US, Revision F) is Nintendo's 1983 arcade platform game, built around a single wraparound sewer stage where Mario and Luigi clear each phase of pests emerging from the pipes.

The brothers run across staggered platforms and jump upward to strike the underside of a floor. An enemy standing above is flipped onto its back, creating a short opening to kick it away before it recovers. Shellcreepers, Sidesteppers, and jumping Fighterflies demand different timing, while later hazards make the crowded screen harder to read.

A POW block sits at the center of the stage. Hitting it jolts enemies that are standing on a surface and can also clear fireballs, but its uses are limited, so deciding when to spend one matters.

Defeated pests can send coins through the pipes for additional points. The game also uses bonus phases that turn the screen into a race to collect coins before time expires, adding a different objective between regular enemy-clearing rounds.

Mario Bros. supports simultaneous two-player play, with one player controlling Mario and the other Luigi. Players can cooperate to set up flips and kicks, or compete for the same coins and safe routes as enemies and hazards share the screen.

As phases advance, fireballs, slippery ice, and falling icicles increase the pressure. Contact with an active enemy, a fireball, or a formed icicle costs a life, so success depends on keeping moving, watching the layers above, and using the stage layout to control each threat.

The U.S. Revision F designation identifies this arcade program revision. Its fundamental cabinet game remains the compact, score-driven Mario Bros. design: clear every enemy, survive the changing hazards, and move on to the next phase.
