About
The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night for Game Boy Advance is a 2007 single-player action-platform game from Amaze Entertainment, published by Sierra Entertainment. It is the handheld edition of the second chapter in The Legend of Spyro, the fantasy reboot storyline that began with The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning. Although it shares its name and broad story with releases for PlayStation 2, Wii, Nintendo DS and mobile phones, the GBA game is its own 2D side-scrolling adventure rather than a reduced version of the console game.
The adventure resumes after Spyro's encounter with Cynder. With the threat of the Dark Master still looming, the young purple dragon is drawn into a new crisis involving Gaul, the Ape King, and the coming Night of Eternal Darkness. Spyro travels through dangerous regions in pursuit of Cynder and the knowledge he needs to face the threat. Sparx remains at his side, while familiar figures from the rebooted series, including Ignitus and the Chronicler, connect the journey to the trilogy's larger conflict.
On Game Boy Advance, progress is built around moving through side-view stages, using jumps, double jumps and a glide to cross hazards and reach higher routes. Spyro attacks enemies at close range, can charge forward, and gains further melee techniques that support longer combinations. Directional attacks and launches give combat a more deliberate rhythm than simply pressing one button repeatedly, while foes, spikes, lava and drops make positioning part of every encounter.
Elemental breath is central to the GBA version of The Eternal Night. Spyro can switch between Fire, Ice, Electricity and Earth breath attacks, spending energy that can be restored with green gems. Enemy types have different elemental strengths and weaknesses, so choosing the appropriate breath helps make battles more efficient. Blue gems feed an experience pool that can improve the breath powers, and hidden Energy Upgrade relics expand Spyro's reserves. Later, Dragon Fury provides a temporary surge that restores health and energy while making his attacks faster and stronger.
The game also rewards exploration beyond the direct route. Red gems restore health, while relics and other upgrades encourage players to search stages carefully instead of rushing through them. The handheld release arrived in North America on October 2, 2007, with later releases in Australia and Europe; its Australian classification identifies the Game Boy Advance version specifically as an Amaze Entertainment game published by Sierra. As a distinct portable interpretation of The Eternal Night, it combines the reboot trilogy's characters and stakes with a compact, sprite-based action-platform format designed around the GBA's controls.
