About
Cardcaptor Sakura: Itsumo Sakura-chan to Issho is a Japanese Game Boy Color adventure released on May 15, 1999. MTO published the licensed Cardcaptor Sakura game, while Landwarf handled development. Its presentation follows the television anime's early Clow Card arc rather than inventing a separate continuity.
The player takes the role of Keroberos, the sleepy guardian of the Book of Clow. After elementary-schooler Sakura Kinomoto opens the book and releases its magical cards, Kero appoints her their Cardcaptor and guides her efforts to recover them. Sakura is the focus of the story, while Tomoyo Daidouji, Syaoran Li, Touya Kinomoto, Yukito Tsukishiro, and other familiar characters appear as the events unfold.
The main game is a dialogue-driven adventure built around Sakura's home and the locations visited in individual episodes. As Kero, the player talks to people, examines rooms and objects, and shares observations that can lead Sakura toward the next incident. When a Clow Card appears, Sakura seals it by choosing from the cards she has already acquired; some captures depend on having the right earlier card.
Its defining feature is a real-time clock and calendar. A new game begins by setting the date and time, and the game then advances with real time. Sakura's availability, conversations, school-day routines, clothing, and story events can change with the hour or day, so progress depends on meeting her at appropriate times instead of simply moving through a fixed sequence of stages.
The Book of Clow doubles as a record of the card collection and a timetable aid: unsealed cards display prompts for time windows when Sakura can be approached about them. This makes the game an adaptation about keeping company with Sakura between card captures as much as it is about collecting the cards themselves. The story covers the first part of the anime's Clow Card narrative and ends after episode 25.
A bonus menu adds three self-contained minigames. Hasande Kurutto is a Reversi-style board game, Narabete Pon is a falling-block puzzle in which apple pieces clear completed rows, and Hotcake Hot is a memory challenge that asks the player to repeat illuminated directions around a pancake. These diversions sit outside the adventure rather than serving as battles.
Other extras use the cartridge's date functions and Game Boy accessories. A fortune feature accepts a birthday to give daily ratings for affection, money, and health, while the printing feature supports the Game Boy Printer for making character-themed stickers. Players can select text, character images and outfits, and decorative borders for their prints.
