About

The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey & Minnie for Super NES is a 1994 Capcom side-scrolling platform game and the follow-up to The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse. Capcom developed and published this 16-bit Disney adventure for SNES, also releasing a closely related Sega Genesis version. Mickey and Minnie set out for a day at the circus, only to find its tents empty and their friends Donald Duck and Pluto missing. The search turns into a trip through a succession of themed worlds as the pair uncover Baron Pete's involvement in the disturbance.

At heart, The Great Circus Mystery is built around brisk left-to-right platforming. Players run, jump across hazards, pick up selected objects or enemies, and hurl them at obstacles and foes. Stages ask players to judge moving platforms, avoid environmental traps, find passages, and confront bosses, while the game supplies a password system to resume progress. Its colorful cartoon presentation and straightforward controls make the immediate goal easy to understand: push onward through each area, collect useful items, and bring Mickey and Minnie's missing friends home.

The game's defining mechanic is its changing costume system. Mickey and Minnie begin with their standard ability to lift and throw, then collect outfits that alter how levels can be approached. The Sweeper costume uses a vacuum-like tool to capture certain enemies and turn them into coins, with battery pickups restoring its power. A safari outfit supports climbing and movement around special ropes, vines, and fixtures, while the cowboy costume provides a hobby horse for higher jumps and a cork-firing pop gun. These tools are not merely visual changes; their mobility and attack options help shape the challenges placed in each themed stage.

Unlike the first Super NES Magical Quest, this sequel lets two people play the main adventure together at the same time. One player controls Mickey and the other controls Minnie, allowing partners to work through the same scrolling levels cooperatively. Either character can also be selected for solo play, with their core abilities remaining equivalent. The addition makes the circus rescue feel designed for shared play rather than alternating turns, while still preserving a complete one-player platform adventure.

The Great Circus Mystery belongs to Capcom's Disney-focused Magical Quest series, but it should not be confused with its 2003 Game Boy Advance reissue. That handheld release was renamed Disney's Magical Quest 2 Starring Mickey & Minnie and added a save feature in place of the SNES password system, along with link-cable cooperative support. The original SNES game is the 1994 entry known by its circus title: a compact 16-bit sequel centered on Mickey and Minnie, costume-based action, and a two-player search for their vanished friends.

For players exploring Super NES Disney games, The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey & Minnie captures a particular Capcom approach to licensed platformers: familiar characters paired with mechanics that matter from level to level. Its circus premise quickly expands into a broader adventure, and every new outfit gives the duo a different way to attack, traverse, or search the route ahead. The result is a cooperative-friendly chapter in the Magical Quest line that places Mickey and Minnie together at the center of the action.
