About
Uta no Prince Sama : Repeat for PSP is Broccoli’s 2011 Japanese remake of the first Uta no Prince-sama game, a romance-focused adventure built around idol training and songwriting. It returns to Saotome Academy, a demanding performing-arts school where students prepare either for idol careers or for work as music creators. The player follows aspiring composer Haruka Nanami as she enters the academy and is paired with a male student who hopes to debut as an idol. Their shared goal is to reach the graduation audition and earn a place with the fictional Shining Agency.
The story unfolds across one school year, from the entrance ceremony in April through the graduation audition the following March. Its 12 chapters each represent a month of academy life, combining dialogue scenes with decisions that guide Haruka’s relationship with her partner and her development as a composer. Choosing a route determines whose story takes center stage. Otoya, Masato, and Natsuki are available first; finishing their routes under the required conditions opens the routes of their respective rivals, Tokiya, Ren, and Syo. That structure makes replaying a central part of the game rather than an optional afterthought.
Uta no Prince Sama : Repeat uses a visual-novel-style adventure format, with voiced dialogue and choice points during scenes. Decisions alter two key values: romance and music. Those values help determine the ending reached for each character, and the game records choices previously made so players can track their progress through the branching material. Additional scenes can also unlock when specific requirements are met, giving repeat playthroughs more story to uncover beyond the main route.
Academy life is regularly interrupted by four kinds of examinations presented as minigames: rhythm lessons, performance tests, academic quizzes, and lyric-writing tests. Rhythm lessons ask the player to follow an instructor’s example and press the indicated PSP buttons in time, while the lyric test has the player choose suitable words under a time limit. The academic test focuses on music and entertainment knowledge, and performance challenges rise in difficulty as the story advances. Each test can be played on Easy or Hard, tying the school setting to hands-on musical tasks instead of leaving the game entirely to text choices.
Repeat is not the 2010 original and should not be confused with the later PS Vita release, Uta no Prince-sama Repeat LOVE. It is the upgraded PSP version: Broccoli added post-ending, fully voiced bonus scenarios for the characters, expanded the volume of the game, and included a Memorial feature previously associated with the series’ fan discs. Its original visuals were also refined and its minigames improved. The later Vita version added its own separate features, so this PSP edition is best understood as the earlier remake that revisits Haruka’s first year at Saotome Academy with extra material while preserving the franchise’s foundational school, music, and romance premise.
