About
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for PSP is a 2009 action game from Savage Entertainment and Activision, created alongside the live-action film of the same name. Although it shares the film's title and conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons, this PlayStation Portable release is its own version rather than a portable conversion of the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 game. It brings the franchise's transforming robots to a compact campaign built around shooting, close-range attacks, vehicle sequences, and missions inspired by the movie's larger war for Earth.
The story takes place after Megatron's defeat, when the Autobots and their human allies are still hunting Decepticons left on Earth. Their conflict expands as an ancient threat known as the Fallen seeks the power needed to tip the war in the Decepticons' favor. The campaign draws on familiar characters and situations from the 2009 film while arranging them for this handheld adventure. Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Jetfire, Megatron, Starscream, Sideways, and other Transformers appear as the struggle moves through a series of combat missions and set pieces.
In robot-form encounters, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen PSP uses a high, top-down viewpoint. Players steer a chosen Transformer around confined battle spaces, aim at hostile machines, fire projectile weapons, and use melee strikes when opponents close in. The perspective gives these exchanges an arcade-shooter character, with movement and targeting handled through the PSP's available controls. Rather than presenting the free transformation and open environments associated with some console versions, the game structures its action around discrete encounters and specialized mission types.
Transforming remains part of the experience through segments designed around a character's alternate form. Driving and escort stages break up the robot battles, asking players to navigate vehicles or protect a target while dealing with enemy pressure. Rail-style levels add another kind of action sequence, so the campaign shifts between shooting, melee combat, and vehicle-focused challenges instead of relying on a single format throughout. These differences are central to the PSP edition's identity and distinguish it from the other 2009 Revenge of the Fallen releases developed for home consoles, PC, Wii, PlayStation 2, and Nintendo DS.
Beyond the story, the PSP game includes an Arena Mode for score-oriented battles against increasing waves of enemies. Players can select favorite characters and return to campaign missions in pursuit of higher scores, giving the game a replay-focused option separate from advancing the plot. Local wireless multiplayer also supports head-to-head Deathmatch play, while Ad Hoc cooperative play lets players join forces on the same handheld version. Those modes reflect Activision's effort to make the PSP release usable both as a solo film tie-in and as a portable competitive or cooperative game.
Released in North America in June 2009, with European availability following that month, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen arrived during a broad multi-platform campaign for the film. Activision assigned separate studios to different systems, making platform-specific design especially important: Savage Entertainment handled the PSP edition, while the better-known console and PC releases were made by other developers. For players exploring Transformers games on Sony's handheld, it stands as a distinct adaptation of the movie-era storyline, built around top-down robot combat, vehicle missions, Arena battles, and local wireless play.
