About

To Heart Portable for PSP brings AQUAPLUS and Leaf's landmark Japanese romance visual novel to Sony's handheld. First issued in Japan on July 30, 2009 as part of the ToHeart2 Portable W Pack, it presents the all-ages console lineage of the original To Heart rather than the adult Windows debut. A budget standalone edition followed in 2011, making this a portable entry point to a series that began on PC in 1997 and later grew through console releases, animation, and sequels.

The story follows high-school student Hiroyuki Fujita through an ordinary-looking near-future school life. Days move through commutes, classes, after-school time, and evenings, with a familiar routine gradually opening onto encounters with the people around him. His childhood friend Akari Kamigishi is one possible focus, but the game is built around multiple heroines and branching character routes instead of a single fixed romance.

To Heart Portable is a text-driven visual novel: players read narration and dialogue over character art and backgrounds, then make choices at key moments. Decisions influence affection and determine which events and story path become available. Location selections at the end of school days help guide Hiroyuki toward particular characters, while different choices encourage repeat play to see alternate routes and endings. The emphasis is on following conversations, noticing how choices affect relationships, and discovering individual scenarios rather than reflex-based action.

The cast gives the school setting a mixture of everyday comedy, romance, and light science-fiction ideas. Alongside classmates such as Akari, the outspoken Shiho Nagaoka, class representative Tomoko Hoshina, and the reserved Serika Kurusugawa, Hiroyuki meets Multi, an experimental humanoid maid robot attending school to learn about people. Other routes involve characters with distinct interests and circumstances, so each playthrough can shift the tone and viewpoint of the broader setting.

This PSP release belongs to the revised all-ages branch established by the PlayStation version, which added voice acting, revised and additional scenarios, and extra content to the earlier PC game. Its 2009 W Pack context also connects it directly to ToHeart2 Portable, while preserving the first To Heart as a separate story with its own cast and routes. For PSP owners interested in Japanese visual novels, To Heart Portable is a handheld edition centered on choice-led romance storytelling and one of Leaf's most enduring early series.
