About
Prince of Persia: Revelations is the PlayStation Portable adaptation of Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. Released in 2005 and developed for PSP by Pipeworks Software, it brings Ubisoft's darker action-adventure sequel to the handheld while preserving the original game's central journey through the Island of Time.
Set seven years after Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the story finds the Prince marked for death after his earlier interference with the Sands. The Dahaka, a relentless guardian of the timeline, pursues him across sea and ruins, driving him to seek the Empress of Time, Kaileena, and a way to prevent the Sands from ever being created. That desperate attempt to alter destiny places Revelations between The Sands of Time and its direct follow-up, The Two Thrones.
The adventure alternates between the island's decayed present and its living past. Time portals turn familiar locations into different obstacles, so the Prince revisits the fortress from new directions while working through switches, traps, vertical routes, and environmental puzzles. This structure makes exploration more open-ended than a simple sequence of stages and rewards attention to shortcuts and hidden chambers.
Free-Form Fighting is the game's other major pillar. The Prince can pair his sword with weapons taken from enemies or found in the world, chain attacks into acrobatic combos, throw a spare weapon as a projectile, and use walls and movement to keep groups under control. Secondary weapons are temporary, creating a practical choice between spending one for a ranged strike or keeping it for its combat advantages.
The Medallion of Time provides a safety net and a tactical tool. Sand energy can rewind a failed jump or bad exchange, slow foes and movement around the Prince, or fuel stronger offensive effects as new powers are gained. Hidden health upgrades and rare equipment encourage detours, and thorough exploration can lead to the Water Sword, the weapon needed to challenge the Dahaka directly and reach the story's fuller ending.
Dahaka chases break up the island's exploration with high-pressure escape sequences. During these runs, fighting is not the answer: the Prince must read the route quickly, wall-run past hazards, leap gaps, and stay ahead of an enemy that cannot normally be harmed. The contrast between deliberate puzzle solving and these urgent pursuits gives the campaign its particular rhythm.
Revelations is more than a straight portable copy. Its PSP version inserts additional areas, maps, and platforming puzzles into Warrior Within's campaign, extending the route through the island with new passages and challenges. It otherwise retains the same core plot, combat system, time powers, bosses, and dark atmosphere, making it a distinct handheld edition for players who want Warrior Within's adventure with extra PSP-specific exploration.
