About

Petz: Hamsterz Bunch for PSP is a single-player virtual-pet simulation from Ubisoft, released in 2009. Developed by DK Games for the European edition, it puts the Petz series’ animal-care format on Sony’s handheld with a family of hamsters rather than dogs or cats. The game arrived in France in June 2009 and was later released in North America as Petz: Hamsterz Bunch; European copies use the title Petz: My Baby Hamster. Its focus is gentle, repeatable care and observation rather than a traditional campaign or competitive challenge.

The player begins by choosing a hamster and can select from a broad range of fur types and colours. From there, daily attention is the central activity: feeding, petting and keeping the animals occupied are presented as ways to care for the pets and watch them develop. The structure is deliberately open-ended, allowing players to return to the animals, tend to their needs and spend time with the collection at their own pace. It is a pet-management game built around looking after small creatures rather than directing them through action stages.

Play also extends beyond routine care through more than 50 events and activities. Toys give the hamsters something to interact with, while themed rooms provide spaces to explore. Familiar habitat items such as hamster wheels and hamster houses help turn the screen into a small indoor play area. These activities add variety to the day-to-day feeding and affection systems, making the animals’ movements and reactions as important as the player’s direct input.

The PSP presentation is a notable part of this edition. Ubisoft promoted the game as the first Petz hamster title on the system, using the handheld’s 3D capabilities for animated animals, environments and fur effects. The result is designed around watching the hamsters move through their surroundings as much as actively managing them. There is no multiplayer or online mode listed for this version, keeping the experience centered on one player’s household of pets.

Petz: Hamsterz Bunch belongs to Ubisoft’s later wave of Petz games, in which the label covered a range of animal-themed simulations across several platforms. It should not be confused with the Nintendo DS games Petz: Hamsterz 2 or Petz: Hamsterz Superstarz, which are separate releases with different platforms and designs. For PSP players looking for a compact animal-care game, this entry offers a hamster-focused variation on the series’ familiar formula of adopting, nurturing, playing with and observing virtual pets.
