About
Need for Speed: Most Wanted 5-1-0 PSP brings Electronic Arts’ 2005 street-racing series entry to Sony’s handheld in a version built around fast events, police pressure, and a climb toward the top of the Blacklist. Released for PlayStation Portable alongside the better-known home-console and PC game, this racing game shares the Most Wanted theme of high-speed outlaw competition while reshaping its structure for portable play. Its title refers to the police code “5-1-0,” immediately setting the tone for races where the law is as much a threat as the rival drivers.
Career mode is the central route through the game. A new racer begins by creating a profile, buying an initial car, and entering events to earn cash and respect. Wins advance the player through the Blacklist, with each level leading to a boss race. The objective is to build a reputation as Rockport’s most notorious driver, but success is not just about crossing the finish line first: police attention and the on-screen Heat meter turn many races into contests of speed, traffic awareness, and escape.
The PSP controls put steering on the analog stick or directional buttons, with separate inputs for acceleration, braking and reversing, the handbrake, camera changes, and looking behind. Nitrous provides an extra burst of pace, while the Speedbreaker ability is available for difficult moments. Police pursuits demand a different kind of driving from a normal race. Players can try to pull away, take shortcuts, or use traffic to disrupt the chasing cars; greater Heat means a more intense pursuit. After winning a Career race with full Heat, the optional Double Down challenge offers a chance to outrun the police for doubled prize money and bonus respect, at the risk of losing that extra reward.
Cars are more than a choice of bodywork. The Safehouse lets players buy vehicles and spend their winnings on visual and performance changes as Career progress unlocks more parts. Cosmetic options include body kits, spoilers, hoods, vinyls, rims, window tint, and paint. Performance upgrades cover handling, engine, induction, chassis, and nitrous, giving the garage a practical role in preparing for later events. This progression connects the immediate arcade-style racing to a longer campaign of accumulating cash, improving a favourite car, and unlocking new possibilities.
Outside Career, Need for Speed: Most Wanted 5-1-0 offers Quick Play choices for a shorter session. Instant Race selects the event, location, and modified car automatically, while Custom Race lets players choose a track. Outrun focuses directly on putting distance between a racer and the police. The PSP edition also adds Tuner Takedown, which reverses the usual perspective by placing the player in a pursuit vehicle tasked with stopping the most wanted street racers. That mode is a defining difference from the standard Most Wanted release and gives the handheld game its own police-focused variation.
Multiplayer supports both local Ad Hoc play between PSP systems and Infrastructure play through EA Nation, reflecting the PSP’s wireless ambitions at release. Players can create or join games, select cars, and race after everyone is ready. Need for Speed: Most Wanted 5-1-0 therefore stands as a distinct handheld companion to the 2005 Need for Speed: Most Wanted: it preserves the Blacklist ascent, custom cars, and pursuit-driven racing associated with the era, while organizing them into a portable collection of Career, quick-race, challenge, and multiplayer options.
