About
LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars for PSP is a LEGO-themed action-adventure game developed by Traveller's Tales and published by LucasArts. Released in North America on March 22, 2011, it brings the 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated film and material from the television series' first two seasons to Sony's handheld. It is the third numbered LEGO Star Wars game, retelling its source material with silent visual comedy, breakable brick-built scenery, and a broad cast of Jedi, clone troopers, droids, Separatists, and familiar figures from elsewhere in the Star Wars saga.
The campaign mixes third-person combat, platforming, environmental puzzles, vehicle sequences, and collecting. Players smash LEGO objects for studs, assemble useful devices from loose bricks, operate switches and character-specific panels, and use the Force to manipulate selected objects. Jedi and Sith wield lightsabers and can reflect blaster fire, while other character types supply skills such as explosives, access to restricted panels, or the ability to fit through small openings. That division of abilities makes the initial story run only part of the game: later Free Play visits with a wider roster reveal collectibles and routes that were previously inaccessible.
Its portable story spans 13 levels, each divided into three acts. The selection draws on Clone Wars adventures including Ambush, Destroy the Malevolence, Rookies, Duel of the Droids, Lair of Grievous, Blue Shadow Virus, and the Ryloth storyline, while a prologue revisits the Geonosis arena battle from Attack of the Clones. Players guide heroes such as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, Padmé Amidala, Jar Jar Binks, and others through droid fights, boss encounters, traversal challenges, and space-combat sections.
The PSP controls adapt the series' familiar actions to a single-screen handheld: movement and jumping are paired with attacks, interaction, Force use, character switching, and special weapons. Vehicle stages add firing, target locking, boosts, and evasive maneuvers. The game supports one or two local players, so a second player can join the action while the campaign retains the series' cooperative puzzle-solving approach. It does not offer online multiplayer.
Completion encourages repeat play. Every level contains Minikits, a Red Brick, and a True Jedi stud target; collected Minikits build bonus vehicles, while Red Bricks unlock purchasable extras such as score multipliers. Studs and Play Coins can also unlock characters and other rewards in the hub, a version of the Republic cruiser Resolute. This loop of story missions, collection goals, character abilities, and Free Play exploration gives the compact campaign a larger set of objectives beyond reaching the ending.
Although LEGO Star Wars III appeared on home consoles, PC, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS as well as PSP, the handheld edition is not simply the larger game in reduced resolution. The PSP, DS, and 3DS releases share a streamlined structure with 13 levels instead of the home versions' 32, and omit their large-scale ground-battle modes. The PSP version consequently stands as a purpose-built portable take on The Clone Wars, preserving the franchise's accessible action, LEGO construction puzzles, collectible-driven replay, and playful interpretation of the animated era.
