About
Ben 10: Protector of Earth for PSP is a 2007 action game based on Cartoon Network’s Ben 10 animated series. Developed by High Voltage Software and published by D3Publisher, it puts Ben Tennyson’s Omnitrix at the center of a portable, 3D adventure. The North American PSP edition arrived on October 30, 2007, with European releases following later that year. Rather than adapting the property as a simple collection of minigames, it presents a campaign of combat, exploration, puzzles, and boss encounters.
The story begins when an enemy drone drains most of the DNA samples from Ben’s Omnitrix. With his range of transformations restricted, Ben travels with Gwen and Grandpa Max to recover the stolen power and stop Vilgax’s larger plan. The campaign moves through locations across the United States, drawing on the show’s characters and threats while giving Ben a sequence of regions, missions, and confrontations to clear. Familiar foes including Vilgax, Kevin Levin, Hex, Dr. Animo, and Ghostfreak appear as the adventure expands.
Moment-to-moment play combines brawling with traversal and environmental problem-solving. Ben can fight directly, but the Omnitrix is the key to progress: its alien forms have different strengths and let the player approach fights and obstacles in distinct ways. The PSP version includes Five forms—Four Arms, Heatblast, XLR8, Cannonbolt, and Wildvine—and additional forms become available as the campaign advances. Managing the Omnitrix’s temporary transformation time gives battles an extra layer beyond ordinary attacks.
Each alien supports the game’s action-adventure structure in a different way. Four Arms is suited to physical combat, Heatblast brings fire-based attacks, XLR8 emphasizes speed, Cannonbolt can roll through hazards, and Wildvine supplies plant-like abilities. Players use these powers against waves of opponents, in platforming sequences, and when dealing with puzzles placed throughout the levels. Boss battles punctuate the journey, while collectible Omnitrix points can unlock more combat moves. The game also hides Sumo Slammer cards in main stages, rewarding exploration with bonus material.
Progress is not solely about reaching the next destination. Stages award Plumber ranks based on completion performance, and top results unlock character-view rewards. The campaign also includes power-ups, recovery-related bonuses, and set-piece boss moments that call for timed special actions. A later Master Control upgrade removes the usual transformation limit and allows freer switching between Ben’s available aliens, making the recovered Omnitrix feel more capable as the game approaches its final conflict.
Ben 10: Protector of Earth on PSP belongs to the group of closely related PlayStation 2, PSP, and Wii versions made by High Voltage Software; the Nintendo DS release was a separately designed side-scrolling game. The PSP edition preserves the console-style 3D action format for Sony’s handheld and supports local two-player cooperative play, with a second player able to join the action. For fans of the original Ben 10 era, it offers a campaign built around the series’ central fantasy: changing into several heroes and using the right alien ability to keep Earth safe.
