About
Jackass: The Game for PSP is a 2007 stunt-focused party game based on MTV's Jackass series. Developed by Sidhe Interactive and published by Red Mile Entertainment, it arrived in North America on September 27, 2007, with later releases in other regions. Rather than adapting a single television episode or movie, it puts the player in the role of a stand-in director charged with getting a new Jackass season made after Jeff Tremaine is sidelined in the game's fictional setup.
The main campaign is structured as MTV Story Mode, where a run of staged episodes is assembled through individual stunts. Players take control of members of the crew, including Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Ryan Dunn and Wee Man, and attempt absurd, deliberately hazardous challenges inspired by the tone of the series. The cast supplied voices and likenesses for the project, although Bam Margera does not appear. Each event is built around a particular vehicle, contraption, location or comic premise, turning the show’s pursuit of painful footage into short, goal-driven game scenarios.
On PSP, success is measured with a five-star performance rating rather than the money-based progression used by the PlayStation 2 version. Stunts present optional objectives alongside the basic task, rewarding precise routes, specific collisions, trick landings or other event-specific actions. Some situations allow a performer to bail out early, after which the game tracks injuries and uses the resulting mishap as part of the score. This makes repeat attempts useful: a stunt can be cleared once, then revisited to pursue a stronger rating and additional objectives.
Challenge Mode provides further versions of completed stunts, while unlockable content gives the campaign another reason to revisit events. The game also includes character costumes, props and video material connected to the television series. Wee Man receives a separate group of compact minigames, and the PSP edition supports wireless multiplayer, giving players a way to compete through the handheld’s Wi-Fi features rather than relying on the console-only split-screen arrangements of its PlayStation 2 counterpart.
A defining PSP feature is Director Mode. The game automatically records cinematic replays of stunt attempts, then lets players save footage, change camera coverage and edit replays into their own show. Completed shows could be exchanged through the PSP’s Ad Hoc or Infrastructure wireless functions, an unusual user-created-video element for a 2007 handheld release. This replay-focused design distinguishes Jackass: The Game on PSP from both the more detailed PlayStation 2 edition and the separately developed Nintendo DS version, which was made by Sensory Sweep Studios.
Jackass: The Game translates the franchise's rough, prank-driven screen persona into a sequence of arcade-like stunt challenges rather than a conventional action adventure. Its PSP version combines campaign episodes, score-chasing objectives, wireless multiplayer and video editing in a package designed around replaying spectacular failures from new angles. For players exploring licensed PSP games from the late 2000s, it is a distinctly handheld interpretation of the Jackass format, shaped as much by recording and remixing a stunt as by completing it.
