About

Capcom Classics Collection Remixed for PSP is Capcom’s 2006 portable arcade compilation, bringing 20 of the publisher’s coin-op games to PlayStation Portable. First released in North America on March 22, 2006, it draws from the company’s 1980s and early-1990s arcade catalogue rather than presenting one unified new adventure. The selection spans scrolling shooters, beat ’em ups, platform action, a fighting game, a brick-breaking puzzler and quiz play, making the collection a compact tour through several eras of Capcom arcade design.

The lineup includes 1941: Counter Attack, Avengers, Bionic Commando, Black Tiger, Block Block, Captain Commando, Final Fight, Forgotten Worlds, Last Duel, Legendary Wings, Magic Sword, Mega Twins, Quiz & Dragons, Section Z, Side Arms, The Speed Rumbler, Street Fighter, Strider, Three Wonders and Varth: Operation Thunderstorm. These are separate arcade games with their own rules, characters and goals. Final Fight sends players through Metro City against the Mad Gear gang, while Strider follows the acrobatic Hiryu on a mission against the Grandmaster. Elsewhere, 1941 and Varth focus on aerial combat, and Block Block uses a paddle and ball to clear brick formations.

Playing Capcom Classics Collection Remixed means moving between very different arcade disciplines. Shooters such as 1941, Legendary Wings and Forgotten Worlds reward precise movement, quick reactions and careful use of weapons or pickups. In brawlers including Captain Commando and Final Fight, players advance through hostile streets by striking enemies and using the attacks and items available to their chosen characters. Platform-oriented games such as Bionic Commando and Black Tiger emphasize placement and timing; Bionic Commando’s hero uses a wire-equipped bionic arm to grapple rather than a conventional jump. The compilation preserves the short, score-driven structure of arcade games, so a session can be a brief attempt to improve a score or a longer push toward a game’s ending.

The PSP edition supplies options intended to make games designed for many different arcade cabinets fit a handheld screen. Players can choose display sizes including Fit, Enhanced, Original and Stretched, and compatible games can be rotated to a vertical presentation. Controls can be remapped per game, and applicable shooting games offer a rapid-fire option. Individual game settings can provide Normal, Hardcore and Custom configurations, with adjustments such as starting lives, difficulty, bonus-life thresholds and continues where supported. Scores, settings and unlocked bonuses can be saved, and separate high-score tables are available for the different difficulty settings.

Several included games support additional players. The collection uses the PSP’s local Ad Hoc wireless mode for cooperative play or alternating turns when a nearby player is hosting a compatible game; Captain Commando supports up to four cooperative players, while titles such as 1941, Avengers, Final Fight and Forgotten Worlds support two-player cooperation. For selected alternating-turn games, two people can also share a single PSP. This preserves both sides of the arcade experience: solitary high-score attempts and the communal play supported by the original game design.

Capcom Classics Collection Remixed also treats the compilation as a historical package. Every game has a bonus section with its history, artwork, gameplay tips and music tracks. Much of that material begins locked and is opened by completing each title’s listed requirements, giving play sessions objectives beyond simply reaching the next stage or posting a better score. The manual’s game information and adjustable presentation acknowledge that the original releases used different screen orientations, button arrangements and cabinet formats, while the PSP interface gives them a common way to be selected, configured and saved.

Remixed is distinct from Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded, the later PSP companion volume with a different selection of Capcom arcade games. It was also not released in Japan under the Remixed name. In 2009, Capcom brought Capcom Classics Collection Remixed to the North American PlayStation Network, offering the same portable anthology as a digital PSP release. For players interested in arcade-era Capcom, the game combines recognizable series entries such as Street Fighter, Final Fight, Bionic Commando and Strider with less frequently encountered titles including Side Arms, Section Z and Quiz & Dragons.
