About
Danball Senki W for PSP is a Japanese action role-playing game from Level-5, released in Japan on October 18, 2012. The second main game in the Danball Senki series, it follows the original PSP adventure and was released alongside a PlayStation Vita edition. Its "Plamo Craft RPG" premise revolves around LBX, palm-sized hobby robots whose battles take place safely inside impact-absorbing fortified-cardboard arenas.
The story moves forward one year after Ban Yamano's fight against the Innovators. LBX has once again become a worldwide hobby, but peace is disrupted by the mysterious Detector organization. Ban, now 14 and the champion of the third Artemis LBX world tournament, joins forces with new protagonist Hiro Oozora. Hiro is a devoted fan of a tokusatsu hero program and a skilled video-game player who rapidly develops a talent for controlling LBX. They are joined by karate student Ran Hanasaki as the group confronts a threat that reaches beyond ordinary hobby battles.
Exploration, story scenes, quests, and real-time robot combat form the core loop. Players assemble an LBX from a core skeleton, five armor-frame sections for the head, torso, arms, and legs, plus weapons, core parts, battle items, and special Attack Functions. Mixing frames changes properties such as weight and resistance, so building a favourite machine is also a practical choice for battle. The game includes more than 7,000 parts, drawing on LBX that had appeared in the earlier Danball Senki, Danball Senki Boost, and Danball Senki Bakuboost games.
Combat supports a broad range of close- and long-range loadouts. Swords and rapiers balance speed, reach, and defense, while lances, hammers, scythes, daggers, knuckles, handguns, two-handed guns, bazookas, missiles, and weapon arms encourage different approaches. W also adds new motions and allows compatible combinations to transform into a flight form during battle, opening aerial attacks and midair combos. That mixture of part selection, weapons, and combat techniques keeps an LBX's appearance closely tied to the way it performs.
Beyond the main campaign, Danball Senki W offers ranking battles, quests found through the Seeker Board, and LBX Dungeon battles that reward items and parts. Ranking battles can lead to rare machines and equipment, while larger Killer Droid encounters add powerful opponents to the optional challenge. Local communication play supports up to six players in versus battles and up to three in cooperative ranking battles; notably, the PSP and PS Vita versions can communicate with one another. PSP players who carried save data from the original Danball Senki or Danball Senki Boost could also unlock Achilles, while play with the Vita version could unlock Epsilon.
Danball Senki W is rooted in a multimedia LBX project that also included animation, model kits, and manga, but this PSP release remains its own complete sequel game. It carries forward Ban's established role while making Hiro and Ran central to the new crisis, expanding the series' collectible-robot concept through a larger parts catalogue, multiplayer options, and an adventure built around customizing a personal LBX for every fight.
