About

Crash: Mind Over Mutant PSP brings Crash Bandicoot's 2008 action-platform adventure to Sony's handheld. Developed originally by Radical Entertainment and adapted for PSP by Virtuos, this Sierra-published entry followed Crash of the Titans and reached North America in October 2008. It is the main 3D version of Mind Over Mutant, rather than the separately designed Nintendo DS game. Crash returns to Wumpa Island when Doctor Neo Cortex and the long-absent Doctor Nitrus Brio distribute the NV, a fashionable handheld device that turns its users into obedient servants.

The central play style combines exploration, platforming, and close-range brawling. Crash travels between interconnected island locations, receives objectives from characters he meets, and uses his jumping ability alongside light and heavy attacks to handle ordinary enemies. Blocking, dodging, and counterattacking add defensive options during larger fights. Breakable scenery and defeated foes release Mojo, which can be collected to strengthen Crash's abilities, giving progress an upgrade-driven layer alongside the story missions.

The game's signature mechanic is jacking: after wearing down a large mutant, Crash can stun it, climb aboard, and take command of its moveset. Different Titans bring different strengths, including heavier attacks or projectile options, while their own Mojo upgrades can improve their effectiveness. Mind Over Mutant expands on the previous game's idea by allowing Crash to keep a captured Titan for later instead of always abandoning it at the end of an encounter. Choosing when to use a stored creature becomes useful as obstacles, combat situations, and routes call for different capabilities.

Crash and Aku Aku are immune to the NV's mind control, but Coco and Crunch are among the friends caught in Cortex and Brio's scheme. Their journey leads through Wumpa Island communities inhabited by freed Titans, as well as places such as the Ratcicle Kingdom, Rhinoroller Desert, Sludge Junkyard, Evil Public School, and Mount Grimly. The story uses comic cutscenes and broad sci-fi parody as Crash works toward Cortex's junk-built Space Head. Along the way, returning series figures including Nina Cortex, N. Gin, Uka Uka, and Nitrus Brio give the game a clear connection to the wider Crash Bandicoot cast.

On PSP, Crash: Mind Over Mutant is a single-player handheld version, distributed on UMD and later made available digitally in North America. That distinguishes it from the home-console editions, which included a second-player assist or cooperative option, and from the Nintendo DS release, whose side-view design and modes were built by Tose. The portable conversion preserves the free-roaming, mission-based structure of the main game, making it a notable late-2000s Crash Bandicoot entry for players who want mutant riding, character-driven humor, and a more exploratory follow-up to Crash of the Titans.
