About
Super Dangan-Ronpa 2: Sayonara Zetsubou Gakuen is the original Japanese PlayStation Portable release of Spike Chunsoft's high-speed mystery adventure, published in Japan on July 26, 2012. It is the second main Danganronpa game, following Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, and presents its mystery through stylized 2.5D motion graphics, voiced scenes, dialogue, exploration, and fast-paced trial sequences.
The story follows Hajime Hinata, one of sixteen Hope's Peak Academy students on a school trip to the tropical Jabberwock Island. What should be an excursion among exceptionally talented classmates turns into a closed-off ordeal when Monokuma imposes a deadly escape condition. Guided at first by the rabbit-like chaperone Monomi, the students must contend with isolation, suspicion, and the consequences of the rules forced upon them.
Between major incidents, players explore island locations, follow story scenes, and spend Free Time getting to know the ensemble. These optional conversations build Hope Fragments and can provide skills for the trial portions, while presents and Monokuma Medals add further incentives to engage with the cast and optional systems. The PSP version also introduces a level system tied to how many skill points can be equipped for trials.
When a case begins, the pace shifts into investigation. Hajime examines locations and speaks with classmates to gather testimony and physical clues, which become the evidence used during the ensuing Class Trial. The game makes deduction an active process: the aim is to connect the information discovered in the investigation with statements made under pressure, rather than simply selecting an answer from a menu.
Class Trials combine mystery-solving with a range of arcade-like challenges. Nonstop Debate has players use collected evidence as Truth Bullets against contradictions or to support relevant statements, while Hangman's Gambit assembles key terms from letters. Panic Talk Action brings a rhythmic challenge to an argument, and Closing Argument asks players to reconstruct the sequence of a case as a comic-style presentation.
This sequel adds Rebuttal Showdown and Logic Dive to its trial toolkit. Rebuttal Showdown turns an opponent's objections into a slicing contest before the decisive evidence is used, while Logic Dive has Hajime navigate a board through branching questions as he organizes a conclusion. Difficulty settings and pre-trial skill selection let players adjust how demanding the action components feel without losing the central investigative structure.
Outside the main progression, the PSP release includes a virtual pet that develops as the player travels and can earn Monokuma Medals, plus substantial bonus modes that open through play. Magical Girl Miracle Monomi is a separate action game starring Monomi, while Island Mode imagines a non-lethal school-trip scenario focused on cooperation, character interaction, resource gathering, and meeting class goals.
This listing is specifically for the Japanese PSP original, not the later English-localized Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair release or the subsequent Vita, PC, console, and mobile editions. Later versions brought platform-specific presentation, controls, collections, or added features, but Super Dangan-Ronpa 2: Sayonara Zetsubou Gakuen on PSP is the 2012 handheld release that introduced this island-set chapter of the series.
