About
Iron Man 2: The Video Game for PSP is a 2010 single-player action-adventure from High Voltage Software and SEGA, released in Europe as Iron Man 2: The Video Game. Arriving alongside the Iron Man 2 film, this handheld edition is a distinct PSP/Wii version rather than the same build as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game. It places Tony Stark and James Rhodes in an original Marvel story that extends beyond the film's events, with Iron Man and War Machine confronting threats to Stark technology.
The campaign alternates between the two armored heroes. Iron Man emphasizes mobility and energy-based attacks, while War Machine brings a heavier arsenal and more robust firepower. Missions combine third-person shooting and close-range fighting as the heroes clear hostile forces, deal with objectives in contained areas, and face larger opposition. On PSP, flight is adapted for the portable version: the characters move through missions by walking and hovering rather than freely flying across expansive stages.
The PSP controls make extensive use of the handheld's inputs. The analogue nub handles movement, while the face buttons are used to aim weapon fire and the triggers discharge attacks. This setup supports switching between ranged combat and melee strikes in the middle of encounters. The game also gives each hero equipment and suit upgrades, providing a reason to collect resources and improve combat capabilities over the course of the story.
Its plot draws on Iron Man comic-book elements while remaining separate from the movie's narrative. Stark and Rhodes encounter the Roxxon Energy Corporation, A.I.M., PROTEAN technology, and enemies including Crimson Dynamo and Ultimo. Nick Fury and Black Widow are part of the wider S.H.I.E.L.D. connection, and Don Cheadle and Samuel L. Jackson reprise their film roles as War Machine and Nick Fury. The story's focus on stolen and replicated armor technology gives the two playable heroes a shared reason to take on the escalating conflict.
Iron Man 2 on PSP is built around a single-player campaign, with no online multiplayer. The portable release was issued in Australia on April 29, 2010, Europe on April 30, and North America in early May; North American UMD copies arrived May 4. It is also notable for its platform-specific approach: High Voltage Software developed the PSP and Wii editions, while other platforms received versions from different studios with different presentation and design.
For Marvel and PSP action-game fans, Iron Man 2 offers a compact, mission-based take on the film-era characters. Its two-hero structure lets players experience Iron Man's energy weapons and War Machine's ballistic style within the same original adventure, while the handheld-focused hovering, targeting, melee combat, and upgrade systems shape the experience around the PlayStation Portable.
