About
Akiba's Trip Plus for PSP is Acquire's 2012 Japanese action-adventure update of the studio's 2011 Akiba's Trip. Released in Japan on June 14, 2012 and published by Acquire, it turns Tokyo's Akihabara district into the setting for a deliberately offbeat urban adventure. The game should not be confused with the later Akiba's Trip 2, known internationally as Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed: Plus revisits and expands the first PSP game.
Its story follows a young man caught up in trouble after an encounter with the Kageyashi, a vampire-like group preying on people in Akihabara. Ordinary weapons alone are not enough against these creatures. The central idea is to expose them to daylight by defeating them in close-quarters fights and tearing away their clothing. That unusual premise makes clothing both a visual part of the game and a practical concern in its battles.
The action takes place in a stylized recreation of Akihabara, the Tokyo neighborhood associated with electronics shops, anime, games and otaku culture. Players travel among its areas, speak with characters, take story assignments and pursue optional missions. The city setting and its contemporary pop-culture atmosphere are a major part of the game's identity, while the conspiracy plot gives the visits to familiar-looking streets a supernatural purpose.
Combat is real-time and centers on breaking an opponent's clothing protection rather than simply emptying a conventional health bar. Attacks can be directed at the head, upper body and lower body, so choosing a vulnerable section matters during a brawl. Victories supply equipment, and the player can change outfits and use different weapons, linking the collection of gear to both character appearance and performance. Encounters can escalate into group fights, making timing and target selection more important than in a one-on-one clash.
Akiba's Trip Plus keeps the base game but adds material intended to make this PSP edition the fuller version. Its event scenes received full voice acting, and the update includes additional sub-missions, more clothing and other replay-oriented content. It also adds the high-difficulty Holic Mode and supports carrying data forward, giving returning players reasons to revisit the campaign rather than treating Plus as a separate sequel.
The original Akiba's Trip and Akiba's Trip Plus were Japan-only PSP releases, so their English series name became more familiar after later installments reached western markets. Plus is historically significant as the enhanced form of the franchise's first game, not the 2013 follow-up. In 2021, the first game's material returned internationally as Akiba's Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed for newer platforms, while this PSP release remains the 2012 version that established the series' mix of Akihabara tourism, eccentric action and daylight-driven battles.
