About
James Bond 007: From Russia with Love PSP is a third-person action game released by Electronic Arts in 2006 for Sony's handheld. Developed for PSP by Rebellion Developments, it adapts the 1963 James Bond film while expanding its story into a separate interactive adventure. Sean Connery supplied his voice and the younger likeness of his screen Bond, placing players in the 1960s era of secret agents, Soviet intrigue, and elaborate Q Branch equipment.
The single-player campaign follows 007 through objective-driven missions built around gunfights, stealth-minded gadget use, and close-quarters encounters. Bond carries his Walther PPK alongside weapons collected in the field, while the PSP controls use an over-the-shoulder perspective for aiming and shooting. Players can employ Bond Focus for more precise shots, search areas for collectible intelligence and schematics, and earn points that can be spent on weapon upgrades or unlockable extras.
Its story begins with an original pre-title rescue before returning to the central Lektor decoder plot. Tatiana Romanova appears to offer British intelligence a Soviet decoding device, but the proposal is part of a trap arranged by OCTOPUS, the game's substitute for the film's SPECTRE organization. Bond's route takes in material inspired by Istanbul and the film's key situations, while adding new characters and confrontations to turn a compact movie narrative into a full campaign.
Gadgets supply much of the spy-fiction flavor between firefights. The wristwatch laser can open protected routes and disable equipment, the Q Copter can reach remote switches, and tools such as sonic cufflinks or a serum gun give Bond alternatives to simply firing at every guard. Some encounters ask the player to use these devices to clear a path or affect enemies, while others bring in hand-to-hand combat and environmental hazards. The result is a mission structure that mixes shooting with small, situation-specific pieces of Bond business.
This PSP edition is related to the 2005 PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube game, but it is not a straight copy. The portable version removes the driving and speedboat missions found on the home consoles, including the associated vehicle action, and concentrates on on-foot stages. In exchange, it adds PSP-focused diversions and adjusts the multiplayer offering with additional maps and characters. Local wireless multiplayer supports competitive play across separate arenas and modes, making it a companion feature rather than part of the campaign.
From Russia with Love also stands out within EA's Bond catalogue because it gave Connery a final return to the role he made famous on film. The game reuses the likenesses of several actors connected with the 1963 production, including Robert Shaw as Red Grant, Lotte Lenya as Rosa Klebb, and Desmond Llewelyn as Q. As EA's last James Bond game before the license moved on in 2006, the PSP release preserves a distinctive blend of classic-film imagery and the third-person action design of the publisher's mid-2000s Bond games.
