About
Spider-Man: Edge of Time for Nintendo DS is a 2011 single-player action-platform adventure based on Marvel's Spider-Man. Developed by Other Ocean Interactive and published by Activision, this handheld edition shares its time-travel premise with the wider Edge of Time release but is its own 2D, side-scrolling game rather than a reduced version of the home-console adventure. It brings Amazing Spider-Man Peter Parker and the future hero Spider-Man 2099, Miguel O'Hara, into a crisis that links their eras.
The story begins with a threat to the future and a warning that Peter's life is in danger. Peter works in the present while Miguel investigates the altered world of 2099, and the two Spider-Men must cooperate across their connection in time. Their mission is to stop the chain of events changing history, protect their respective timelines, and avert the catastrophe facing Amazing Spider-Man.
Instead of the third-person format used by the console releases, the Nintendo DS game presents its action from a side view. Players move through interconnected 2D areas, run and jump across platforms, climb and traverse Spider-Man-style environments, and fight enemies while pursuing objectives. Exploration and combat are paired with blocked routes, environmental obstacles, and encounters that require the player to consider which hero is best placed to continue.
A central feature is the ability to switch between Peter and Miguel as they occupy corresponding locations in two different periods. Changes made in one version of an area can affect the other, turning the time-travel concept into a practical tool for opening paths and solving progression problems. The game preserves each hero's situation when control changes, encouraging players to compare the present and 2099 versions of the map rather than treating the characters as separate campaigns.
Spider-Man: Edge of Time follows Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions as a Spider-Man game built around multiple incarnations of the character, but the DS edition narrows the focus to Peter Parker and Miguel O'Hara. Its use of a connected-map, time-switching structure gives the Nintendo DS version a different identity from the 3D versions developed by Beenox, while keeping the series' race-against-time story at the center of the experience.
