About
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril is the Nintendo DS edition of the LEGO Marvel adventure, built as a standalone portable take on the wider LEGO Marvel Super Heroes story. Developed by TT Fusion and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, it reached North America on February 18, 2014. This is not the open-world console release: the DS game is a single-player, mission-led action adventure tailored to the system’s screens and touch controls.
The story starts when Doctor Doom and Loki attack Silver Surfer, scattering fragments of his board across Earth. Those fragments, known as Cosmic Bricks, become the center of a race between the heroes and a gathering of Marvel villains. Nick Fury brings together heroes including Iron Man, Spider-Man, Hulk, Captain America and Wolverine to retrieve the bricks before Doom and Loki turn them into a super-weapon. Galactus’ search for his herald adds another threat to the heroes’ mission.
On Nintendo DS, the campaign is organized around 45 action-packed missions across Marvel locations rather than a freely explorable city. Each mission puts the emphasis on moving through an objective, fighting enemies, solving light environmental problems and reaching the next encounter. The format makes the adventure easy to pick up for a short session while still giving the campaign a broad trip through the Marvel universe.
Combat uses the quick, approachable LEGO style: break objects, collect studs, defeat groups of enemies and make use of a hero’s special strengths. Super-powered abilities such as flight, super strength and invisibility help with both battles and progression. Signature Super Moves are part of the action as well, including Hulk’s Thunder Clap and Iron Man’s Arc Reactor, giving familiar characters distinct ways to deal with obstacles and opponents.
The DS version also makes teamwork part of its puzzle structure. Players receive help from tag-team partners during missions, and Free Play lets them take control of teammates once available. Returning to stages with different characters can open up challenges and rewards that were not accessible on an earlier visit, adding a reason to revisit completed missions beyond simply replaying the story.
Touchscreen functionality is built into the Nintendo DS presentation, putting key interactions close at hand while the top screen carries the action. The game remains a one-player experience, so its focus is on switching attention between the active hero, supporting partners and the task in front of the player rather than on local cooperative play. That portable structure is a defining part of this specific DS release.
Universe in Peril keeps the playful tone associated with LEGO games while drawing on a large cast of Marvel heroes and villains. The cosmic-brick hunt sends its characters through settings connected to the Marvel universe, with the conflict between the heroes, Doom and Loki driving the adventure forward. It is a good fit for players who want a compact Marvel quest built around recognizable powers, collectible LEGO rewards and chapter-by-chapter progression.
For Nintendo DS collectors, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril is a distinct late-era handheld entry, released several months after the Nintendo 3DS version in North America. Its separate title, later DS release date, mission-based format, touchscreen functionality and single-player focus are the important details to keep in mind when comparing it with the 3DS, PlayStation Vita, mobile and home-console versions of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes.
