About

LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures for Nintendo DS is a 2008 action-adventure game that turns the first three Indiana Jones films into a playful LEGO journey. Published by LucasArts, the handheld edition was developed by TT Fusion, rather than simply being a direct copy of Traveller’s Tales’ console game. Its story visits the film worlds of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, recasting familiar chases, archaeological sites, traps, and escapes with brick-built characters, visual comedy, and compact dual-screen levels.

Players guide Indiana Jones and his allies through stages that combine fighting, platforming, exploration, and simple environmental puzzles. The adventure constantly asks the player to break LEGO objects, gather Studs, look for usable items, and assemble loose pieces into mechanisms, bridges, or other ways forward. Characters can be swapped to take advantage of their particular skills, so progress often depends on bringing the right partner to a switch, obstacle, or treasure. Defeated heroes return quickly, keeping the emphasis on experimentation and momentum rather than harsh penalties.

Indy’s whip is central to the Nintendo DS game’s action and puzzle solving. It can be used to hit enemies, interact with objects, and help reach higher routes, while the stylus brings some character abilities and environmental actions directly to the touch screen. The DS hardware is also part of several challenges: players can use the microphone to put out flames, inflate a raft, or activate propeller-driven lifts. These touch and microphone tasks give this portable version a distinct identity alongside its familiar button-based movement, combat, jumping, and item handling.

The game follows a globe-spanning version of Indy’s early film trilogy, moving from the South American opening of Raiders to the dangers associated with Temple of Doom and the search for the Holy Grail in Last Crusade. Short, wordless LEGO-style scenes introduce major moments with slapstick timing instead of film dialogue. Levels add material suited to interactive play, while animals, vehicles, hazards, and destructible scenery broaden the routes through each location. A monkey companion can reach some otherwise inaccessible spaces, and the DS version also includes touchscreen-oriented diversions such as action challenges, tangram-style puzzles, and a Temple of Doom-inspired cooking minigame.

As in other LEGO adventures, collectibles and repeat play are important parts of the structure. First trips through the story limit the available cast, but unlockable characters and abilities open more possibilities when earlier stages are revisited. Studs contribute to the game’s ongoing rewards, and hidden secrets encourage players to inspect alternate paths and interact with the scenery beyond the most obvious solution. The Nintendo DS edition also supports cooperative play for two people who each have a game card, while solo players can switch characters as needed and work with a computer-controlled companion.

LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures arrived on Nintendo DS in June 2008, alongside versions for several other platforms, at a time when the LEGO game format was already known for adapting film franchises into accessible action-puzzle adventures. The DS release preserves that combination of collectible-driven replay, character-based problem solving, and broad family-friendly comedy, but reshapes it for portable play with a more action-focused balance and DS-specific controls. It was followed by LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues, though this first game remains the entry devoted to the original three Indiana Jones films.
