About
LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy for Nintendo DS is a 2006 action-adventure game from Amaze Entertainment and LucasArts. It follows the first LEGO Star Wars game, shifting from the prequel films to the original trilogy: Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Its handheld adaptation turns the Rebel Alliance's struggle against the Galactic Empire into a compact, brick-built journey full of visual gags, familiar music, blaster fire, lightsabers, and destructible scenery.
The story begins with the opening events of A New Hope and carries players through famous locations and encounters from all three films. Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO, Darth Vader, and many other film characters appear as LEGO minifigures, with the plot presented in the series' characteristically playful, wordless style. Episodes IV, V, and VI are reached from a Mos Eisley Cantina hub, giving the adventure a clear home base between missions.
In each chapter, players explore 3D environments, fight Imperial forces, break LEGO objects for studs, assemble useful creations from loose bricks, and solve simple environmental obstacles. The active cast matters: Jedi characters use lightsabers and the Force, droids can operate suitable panels, and other character types open routes tied to their abilities. Studs function as the game's currency, rewarding exploration as well as combat and helping fund new characters, vehicles, hints, and extras in the Cantina.
Story Mode introduces the levels with their appropriate characters and unlocks progress through the trilogy. Completed stages can then be revisited in Free Play, where a broader selection of unlocked heroes and villains makes it possible to reach secrets that the original story party could not access. Collectible minikit pieces, gold bricks, and other hidden rewards give each location a reason to be searched again, while the Cantina also includes a character-building feature for mixing parts from available minifigures into custom creations.
This Nintendo DS version was developed specifically for the handheld rather than simply being the console release on a smaller screen. It keeps the Mos Eisley hub, story progression, Free Play structure, and LEGO-based puzzle solving while adapting the adventure to the DS controls and display. The game also supports wireless multiplayer: two systems with game cards can connect for cooperative play, and the Cantina provides options for hosting or joining wireless sessions.
Vehicle sequences broaden the trip beyond on-foot action, putting Star Wars machinery alongside the game's platforming and puzzle challenges. Whether clearing a route with the Force, switching to the right character for a locked area, or returning in Free Play to collect missed secrets, LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy Nintendo DS presents the classic film trilogy as a portable LEGO adventure. It also occupies an important early place in the LEGO Star Wars game series, preceding the later compilation LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga.
