About
Elf Bowling 1 & 2 for Nintendo DS is a 2005 holiday-themed sports compilation published by Ignition Entertainment. It brings together two short NStorm games previously known from the PC era: the original Elf Bowling and its follow-up, Elves in Paradise: Elf Bowling 2. Rather than presenting a traditional sports simulation, this Nintendo DS release centers on broad, cartoon-style contests in which Santa Claus and a troupe of unruly elves replace the usual balls, pins, and shuffleboard discs. Released in North America on December 1, 2005, it preserves the simple, quick-play design that defined the earlier games.
The first game turns ten-pin bowling into a North Pole gag. Santa stands at the head of an icy lane while elves line up as the pins at the far end. The aim is still familiar: send the ball down the lane and knock down as many targets as possible over a standard bowling frame structure. On DS, timing is the key input. A moving indicator on the lower screen determines the throw when the player presses the button, so success depends on choosing the right moment rather than building up an elaborate character or season. The result is a compact arcade-style bowling game built around individual rolls, spares, strikes, and the unpredictable behavior around the lane.
Elf Bowling 1 & 2 changes direction for its second selection, adapting Elves in Paradise: Elf Bowling 2 into a shuffleboard contest on a cruise ship. Santa and his brother Dingle Kringle take turns sending elves along the deck toward scoring areas. Players use the directional pad to set a left-or-right aim, then press A as a moving light reaches the desired point to launch the elf. Landing position matters, as the far end of the deck is divided into scoring zones. A well-placed shot can stay on the board for a higher total, while a poor launch can leave an elf short or send it overboard. Other sliding elves can also alter where a piece finally stops, giving each round a little of the collision-based uncertainty associated with shuffleboard.
The two games share a deliberately irreverent Christmas-comedy premise, but their settings and objectives keep the package from feeling like one repeated event. Elf Bowling is the wintry lane game, with Santa bowling at the workshop's striking elves. Elf Bowling 2 moves the cast to a sunny shipboard vacation and makes the elves the objects propelled across the scoring surface. Both games are structured around short rounds and score chasing, making the collection suited to brief sessions rather than a long campaign. Its interface favors direct button timing and aiming over the DS hardware's touch-screen possibilities, retaining the straightforward interaction of the source games.
As a Nintendo DS title, Elf Bowling 1 & 2 is a snapshot of a web-era novelty series arriving on cartridge. The original Elf Bowling and Elves in Paradise had circulated as NStorm games before Ignition Entertainment assembled them for Nintendo handhelds in 2005; the same compilation also appeared on Game Boy Advance. The DS edition therefore serves as a portable version of two early entries in the wider Elf Bowling series, with their original comic premise and distinct bowling and shuffleboard formats kept at the center of the package.
