About

Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow for PlayStation 2 is a third-person espionage action game from Bend Studio, published by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2010. It is the PlayStation 2 conversion of the 2007 PSP release, and it continues the story after Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror. Gabe Logan returns as the operative at the center of an international crisis, making this a late PlayStation 2 entry in Sony’s long-running stealth-action series rather than a separate sequel made specifically for the console.

The campaign combines cautious infiltration with direct gunfights. Players guide Gabe through hostile locations from an over-the-shoulder view, using firearms, gadgets, and the series’ familiar emphasis on choosing when to stay unseen and when to engage. Missions ask him to move through guarded spaces, deal with armed opponents, and adapt to changing objectives. Cover is a major part of the combat flow: Gabe can work around obstacles, lean out to aim, and fire without fully exposing himself, giving confrontations a more tactical rhythm than a simple run-and-gun shooter.

Logan’s Shadow expands the action with close-quarters options and underwater sequences. Gabe can use enemies as human shields during melee encounters, while regenerative health changes how players recover after a difficult exchange. The game also takes the series below the surface, introducing underwater combat as Gabe explores submerged areas and faces threats that cannot be handled exactly like encounters on land. These features sit alongside the weapon-based action and stealth systems that define the Syphon Filter formula, creating missions that alternate between reconnaissance, infiltration, pursuit, and open combat.

The story follows Gabe as an attack on a U.S. Navy vessel pulls him into a conflict involving terrorism, competing intelligence interests, and a dangerous piece of technology. His partner Lian Xing disappears under suspicious circumstances, leaving Gabe to question the information supplied by his own side while he searches for answers. The game’s espionage framework carries the player through multiple international settings and gives the campaign a personal stake as Gabe investigates Lian’s past. Greg Rucka wrote the story, while Azam Ali contributed the score, pairing the game’s globe-spanning covert-operation premise with a character-focused chapter for the series leads.

The PlayStation 2 edition was tailored to the DualShock 2 rather than simply copying the portable controls. Bend Studio added a dedicated snap-to-cover function, assigned a swing-out-and-aim action to L1, and retuned the game around the console controller’s second analog stick. The conversion also uses higher-resolution textures and effects for the hardware. Those changes make Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow PS2 distinct from the PSP original while preserving its campaign and stealth-action identity. As the sixth and final Syphon Filter game, it closes the main Gabe Logan storyline and represents the series’ final original-era chapter on a Sony console.
