About

Scooby-Doo! Night of 100 Frights PS2 is a single-player 3D platform adventure developed by Heavy Iron Studios and published by THQ. Released in North America in May 2002, it was the first Scooby-Doo console game of its generation, arriving on PlayStation 2 before versions for GameCube and Xbox. The mystery begins when Scooby, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma visit Mystic Manor to help Daphne's friend Holly Graham investigate the disappearance of her inventor uncle, Professor Alexander Graham. A shadowy figure called the Mastermind soon scatters the gang, leaving Scooby to search the estate and uncover what is happening.

The PlayStation 2 game places players directly in control of Scooby-Doo from a third-person perspective. Its central loop combines exploration, platforming, combat, and collectible hunting: Scooby runs through hazardous rooms and outdoor areas, jumps across gaps, uses attacks against threats, and looks for routes that initially lie beyond his reach. Encounters with monsters and smaller creatures can frighten him and reduce his health, while food pickups help restore it. The familiar focus on a scared but determined Scooby gives the action a distinctly cartoon-inspired tone without changing the game into a traditional point-and-click mystery.

Mystic Manor serves as the hub for a connected quest across twelve areas. Scooby moves through places such as the mansion itself, graveyard spaces, caves, secret laboratories, a fishing village, and the pier, with trapdoors, shortcuts, and hidden passages rewarding careful exploration. Progress is regulated by keys and by Snack Gates that demand accumulated Scooby Snacks, so gathering collectibles is often part of advancing rather than a separate diversion. Activated warp gates make it easier to revisit earlier locations once new paths or abilities become available.

A major part of Night of 100 Frights is finding the Professor's inventions. These gadgets give Scooby additional ways to travel through the manor grounds and let players return to previously visited sections for areas that could not be reached before. The game also hides Monster Tokens depicting villains; collecting them opens material in Mystic Manor's Monster Gallery. That structure makes the PS2 release a scavenger hunt as well as a linear rescue mission, encouraging players to inspect side routes, revisit levels, and build up their store of Scooby Snacks.

The story draws on the long-running television formula while making Scooby the sole playable hero. As he rescues Shaggy, Fred, Velma, and Daphne, he faces a gallery of costumed and supernatural-looking foes associated with classic Scooby-Doo adventures, including major confrontations with characters such as Redbeard, the Black Knight, and the Green Ghost. Voice work from Scott Innes, Frank Welker, Grey DeLisle, B. J. Ward, Tim Curry, Don Knotts, and Tim Conway supports the cast, while familiar series-style sound effects reinforce the animated presentation.

Although the PS2 edition is a one-player DVD-ROM release, it has its own place in the game's launch history. THQ released it in North America in May 2002, with a PAL release following later that year; the North American PlayStation 2 version subsequently received the Greatest Hits label. The same core adventure later appeared on GameCube and Xbox, but Scooby-Doo! Night of 100 Frights PS2 remains the original sixth-generation console release: a mansion-spanning platform game built around rescuing Mystery Inc., collecting Snacks and tokens, and exposing the scheme behind the Mastermind's fright-filled hauntings.
