About
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within on PlayStation 2 is Ubisoft’s 2004 action-adventure sequel to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Seven years after the events of that game, the Prince has spent his life fleeing the Dahaka, a relentless guardian of the timeline that hunts him because he survived the consequences of releasing the Sands of Time. A warning that his death is already written sends him across dangerous seas to the Island of Time, an ancient stronghold where the Sands were first created.
The island is the heart of Warrior Within’s adventure: a ruined, trap-filled fortress seen in two eras. Time portals let the Prince move between its present-day decay and its living past, changing the state of rooms, routes, mechanisms and obstacles. Progress comes from reading the shape of the environment as much as from athletic precision—running along walls, vaulting gaps, scaling ledges, swinging from poles and using the series’ signature acrobatics to turn forbidding architecture into a path forward.
The Prince still carries the power to manipulate time, using the Sands to undo a fatal mistake, slow the action or accelerate his movement. Warrior Within builds a more combat-focused game around those abilities. The Prince fights with a permanent sword and a second weapon taken from enemies or found in the world, allowing dual-wielding combinations, thrown weapons and attacks that use the surroundings. Secondary weapons wear out, so improvisation is part of every extended encounter.
Combat is faster, harsher and more flexible than in The Sands of Time. Enemies can be met in groups throughout the island, while the Prince’s expanded move set rewards switching between direct strikes, evasive acrobatics and environmental opportunities. The PS2 game also pairs exploration with sudden Dahaka chase sequences, demanding clean platforming under pressure instead of simply winning a fight. Those pursuits give the central threat a direct presence long before the story’s later confrontations.
At the center of the plot is Kaileena, the Empress of Time, whose fate becomes inseparable from the Prince’s attempt to escape his own. His goal is not merely to defeat a monster but to alter the chain of events that created the Sands in the first place. The story uses shifting time periods, doubles and cause-and-effect reversals to turn the Island of Time into a maze of consequences, while still driving toward the next chapter of the Sands of Time trilogy.
Warrior Within deliberately takes the series into a darker, more aggressive mood than its predecessor, with a weathered Prince, ominous ruins and a rock-oriented soundtrack accompanying its action. That tonal change is part of this PS2 game’s identity, but the foundation remains classic Prince of Persia: kinetic traversal, elaborate traps, spatial puzzles and the chance to correct a mistimed jump by rewinding time.
This is the original PlayStation 2 version of Warrior Within, not the 2005 PSP adaptation Prince of Persia: Revelations. Revelations is based on the same adventure but adds and reworks content for the handheld release; the PS2 edition presents the original console campaign and its original island routes. For players following the trilogy, Warrior Within bridges The Sands of Time and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones.
For fans of PS2 action games, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within offers a substantial blend of platforming, swordplay and time-bending exploration. Its dual-weapon combat and interconnected past-and-present level design make every return to the Island of Time feel purposeful, whether the Prince is hunting for a new route, escaping the Dahaka or refusing to accept the fate laid before him.
