About
Jak and Daxter The Lost Frontier PS2 is a 2009 action-platform adventure developed by High Impact Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It brings Jak, Daxter and Keira to the Brink, a distant edge of their world, after a growing Eco shortage destabilizes the planet. Keira is pursuing her training as a Sage while searching for an answer to the crisis, and the journey quickly becomes a conflict with sky pirates and the powerful Aeropan forces. The game continues the series' blend of animated characters, Precursor technology and Eco-powered action while giving this PS2 entry a strong aerial focus.
Much of the adventure is built around exploring island, settlement and industrial locations on foot. Jak runs, jumps, double-jumps and fights with his staff and Gunstaff while collecting equipment and confronting robotic, pirate and Aeropan opponents. The DualShock 2 layout gives the player direct camera control with the right stick, a dedicated fire input, weapon selection on the directional pad, and close-range attacks and movement options on the face buttons. These fundamentals support platforming routes, combat encounters and environmental problems rather than turning the game into a straight sequence of battles.
Eco takes a central role in the PS2 game. As the story advances, Jak acquires specialized abilities that use different kinds of Eco: an explosive amplifier, crystal-building constructs that can create routes or harm enemies, a rocket jump, a protective shield, slowed-reflexes effects and teleportation at designated Precursor devices. The abilities consume a rechargeable Eco supply, so using them is as much about choosing the right tool for a situation as it is about attack power. They open alternate approaches to hazards and platforms, and they sit alongside Gunstaff modifications that broaden Jak's regular fighting options.
The Lost Frontier also sends Jak into the air aboard the Hellcat and other craft. Flight missions move between the ground stages and the wider conflict, with steering, boosting, braking and airborne weapons used against hostile aircraft. Ships can be equipped with different weaponry as the game progresses, letting aerial battles play differently from the on-foot sections. Daxter remains Jak's vocal companion and also receives playable Dark Daxter sequences, where his temporary transformation changes the scale and style of the action.
The story follows the group from the troubled Brink through pirate territory and Aeropan installations in pursuit of the machinery connected to the Eco crisis. Familiar series ideas such as Light and Dark Eco, the Precursors and Jak's earlier transformation shape the stakes, but the immediate goal is to restore the world's Eco balance and protect Keira's work. Sony announced the game for both PlayStation 2 and PSP, and the shared adventure was adapted to each system's controls; this version uses the PS2 controller's extra buttons for direct access to several of Jak's Eco techniques. For players looking for a late PlayStation 2 Jak and Daxter adventure, it combines character platforming, weapons, puzzle-solving and sky combat in one campaign.
