About
Jackass: The Game for PlayStation 2 is a 2007 stunt-themed party game based on MTV's Jackass television series. Developed by Sidhe Interactive and published by Red Mile Entertainment, the PS2 release puts the series' reckless comic premise into a campaign of interactive set pieces. It arrived in North America on September 24, 2007, alongside a PlayStation Portable version from the same developer; the Nintendo DS edition was a separately developed game.
The premise casts the player as the person who must help get a new season of Jackass filmed after director Jeff Tremaine is sidelined. Rather than following a conventional action-game story, the campaign is organized around producing television episodes. Progress comes from assembling enough usable stunt footage for each program, turning the structure of the show into a sequence of short, self-contained challenges.
In MTV Story Mode, episodes group several stunts together and allow players to tackle their available events in their own order. The challenges draw on the series' blend of dangerous-looking practical jokes, physical dares, vehicles, and deliberate mishaps. Objectives vary from stunt to stunt, so the game shifts between different minigame-style tasks instead of relying on one repeated control scheme. Completing stunts earns money toward an episode's target and opens further content.
The PlayStation 2 version lets players take the roles of Jackass regulars including Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Ryan Dunn, Chris Pontius, and Wee Man. The performers supplied their likenesses and voice work for the game, though Bam Margera is absent. As in the program that inspired it, the action turns failed landings and collisions into part of the spectacle: the PS2 edition tracks injuries during its stunts, and its Bail-Out sequences reward the on-screen chaos caused by a character's tumble through the environment.
Outside the main story, finished events can be revisited through Challenge Mode for additional objectives and rewards. Money can be spent at Jackass-Mart on unlockables such as costumes, props, playable characters, and clips associated with the television series. The PS2 release also includes Wee Games for competitive minigame sessions and supports a Round Robin format for up to four local players, giving the adaptation a social party-game side as well as its single-player episode progression.
Jackass: The Game reflects the mid-2000s effort to adapt a reality-comedy brand whose appeal rested on personalities and escalating stunts rather than a continuing fictional world. Its campaign uses the idea of editing together a season to give its minigames a common goal, while its cast, unlockables, and archival video material connect the game directly to the MTV series. The PS2 version is not the same as the handheld or DS releases: its console-focused presentation includes more detailed stunt environments, while the PSP edition is the version associated with replay editing and sharing tools.
