About

Disney•Pixar Finding Nemo for PlayStation 2 is a 2003 action-adventure game developed by Traveller’s Tales and published by THQ. Based on the Disney and Pixar film, it places players in the underwater search for the young clownfish Nemo after he is taken from the Great Barrier Reef. The PS2 release arrived in North America in May 2003, alongside versions for GameCube and Xbox; these home-console editions share a different development history from the Game Boy Advance and computer games bearing the same name.

The adventure follows the film’s journey through a sequence of story-led levels, with players taking control of Nemo, his anxious father Marlin, and the forgetful but determined Dory. Their routes and challenges change with the characters and the scene being adapted. Rather than presenting a single continuous open ocean, the game moves between individual stages inspired by key moments in the movie, giving the campaign a clear forward progression toward the rescue.

Play on the PS2 combines straightforward movement and action with obstacle courses, environmental hazards, simple puzzles, and short diversions. Much of the game uses a side-on format, while alternate activities break up the main stages. Players guide the fish through currents, avoid dangers, collect items, and complete level-specific objectives. Its accessible control scheme and film-based structure make the goal in each section easy to understand even as the situations change.

Optional Gold Starfish objectives add another layer to the journey. Finding enough of these collectibles opens bonus content, encouraging players to revisit stages and look beyond the quickest route through a level. The game also includes minigames and movie clips tied to the story, so its interactive sequences and cinematic material work together to retell the adventure instead of treating the license as a loose backdrop.

Marlin and Dory’s search takes the game across the familiar ocean world of Finding Nemo, while Nemo’s own sections cover his experiences away from home. The changing cast gives the game several perspectives on the same plot: Marlin’s determined trip across the sea, Dory’s companionship on that route, and Nemo’s attempt to cope with his new surroundings. Supporting characters from the film appear as the story advances, keeping the campaign focused on the reunion at its center.

The PlayStation 2 version was one part of THQ’s early publishing agreement with Disney Interactive and Pixar, and Traveller’s Tales handled the PS2, GameCube, and Xbox releases. It reached multiple territories during 2003, with THQ publishing the North American and European PS2 editions and Yuke’s publishing the Japanese release. A later PlayStation 3 digital release was based on the PS2 game, making the original PS2 version the foundation for that subsequent console availability.
