About

Densha De Go! Professional 2 for PlayStation 2 is Taito’s Japanese railway-driving simulation, originally released in Japan on 27 February 2003 and later reissued in the TAITO BEST line on 29 July 2004. It is a follow-up to Densha de Go! Professional Specification rather than a conversion of the early arcade original. The PS2 game puts the player in a virtual driver’s cab and bases its challenges on real Japanese services, routes and rolling stock.

The central task is disciplined operation: work the train’s power and brake controls, observe signals and speed restrictions, keep to the timetable, and bring the train to the correct position at each stop. Progress is therefore built around accuracy as much as movement. A run can demand careful changes of pace between stations as well as attention to the service’s scheduled timing, making each route a test of railway procedure rather than a race to the finish.

Professional 2 is organised around five featured lines. Its collection includes the Shōnan–Shinjuku Line between Ōmiya and Yokohama, the Tsurumi Line between Tsurumi and Ōgimachi, the Kosei Line from Osaka to Tsuruga, and the Seto-Ōhashi Line, with services linking Okayama to Kotohira or Takamatsu. The fifth selection covers the Nagasaki and Sasebo lines, running from Hakata toward Sasebo. These geographically varied settings take the simulation from metropolitan commuter territory to regional main lines and the Seto Bridge corridor.

Taito promoted the PS2 edition as featuring more than 80 types of train. Different services and rolling stock give the route selection a broad operational character, while the choice of lines distinguishes the game from earlier Professional Specification material and from later Densha de Go! releases. The title remains Japanese-language, in keeping with the series’ focus on Japanese rail operations and locations.

As part of a franchise that began in Taito arcades in the 1990s, Densha De Go! Professional 2 represents the series’ console-era effort to turn real railway driving into a structured simulation. Its appeal lies in learning the rhythm of each assigned service: accelerate with restraint, manage braking distance, meet the working timetable and guide the train through an exacting recreation of selected Japanese routes.
