Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2

Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 for PlayStation 2 is a Capcom-published arcade anthology developed by Digital Eclipse and released in North America in late 2006. The single-disc collection assembles 20 games from Capcom's arcade history, spanning scrolling shooters, beat-'em-ups, platform action, fighting, puzzles and quiz play. Rather than centering on one genre or era, it presents a broad cross-section of the company’s coin-op catalogue for PS2 players.

The lineup includes 1941: Counter Attack, Avengers, Black Tiger, Block Block, Captain Commando, Eco Fighters, The King of Dragons, Knights of the Round, Last Duel, Magic Sword, Mega Twins, Quiz & Dragons: Capcom Quiz Game, Side Arms: Hyper Dyne, The Speed Rumbler, Street Fighter, Strider, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Three Wonders, Tiger Road and Varth: Operation Thunderstorm. That selection moves from vertical and horizontal shooting to side-scrolling combat, fantasy brawling and one-on-one fighting, so each game retains its own rules, controls and arcade-style challenge.

Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 PS2 lets players approach these games individually rather than as one linked campaign. A run in Varth or 1941 is built around dodging fire and managing power-ups, while Captain Commando, The King of Dragons and Knights of the Round shift the emphasis to advancing through stages against groups of enemies. Super Street Fighter II Turbo supplies competitive head-to-head matches, and Three Wonders collects three distinct arcade experiences under its own banner. Several included titles support multiplayer where their original arcade designs did, giving the compilation both solo and shared-play options.

The package also adds collection-oriented material around the games. Unlockable cheats can alter play for selected titles, while training videos, original artwork and historical information reward exploration of the menu and accomplishments in the games. Quiz & Dragons appears here in a Capcom-focused form, adding trivia to a library otherwise dominated by action and shooting. These extras frame the disc as more than a simple sequence of launches while keeping the arcade games themselves at the center.

As the second home-console volume in the Capcom Classics Collection series, this release complements the first PlayStation 2 and Xbox collection with a different group of Capcom games. Its roster notably includes Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Tiger Road, neither of which appeared in the two PSP companion collections, Capcom Classics Collection Remixed and Reloaded. The PlayStation 2 edition therefore stands as a focused snapshot of Capcom arcade design across the 1980s and 1990s, from early titles such as Street Fighter to later games including Eco Fighters and Varth.
