About
Super Uno, known in Japan as スーパーUNO, is Tomy’s 1993 Super Famicom adaptation of the UNO card game. It was released in Japan on November 12, 1993 as a cartridge, with Tomy credited as both developer and publisher. The release remained exclusive to Japan.
The basic matches follow UNO’s shedding-card premise. Players take turns selecting cards that match the current card by color, number, or symbol, using special cards to alter the flow of a round. The goal is to get rid of a hand before the opposition does, so a simple match can hinge on timing, card choice, and the changing color in play.
Super Uno includes a tutorial that explains the rules and the roles of the cards. It also provides local-rule settings, allowing players to set up a game with rule variations before a match begins.
Its Mission mode takes the card game beyond a single table match. This mode combines a board-game progression with UNO play: four boards lead to boss card battles, while spaces can award items or trigger minigame events. Clearing those boards opens a fifth board and a chance to face the UNO King.
The game supports one or two local players, with the card action presented on a shared game screen. That makes the standard matches suitable for a solo game as well as for taking turns with another player, while Mission mode supplies a longer sequence of boards and encounters.
As a Super Famicom version of a familiar tabletop game, Super Uno uses a Japanese interface and the system’s colorful presentation to turn card selection, board movement, and event scenes into a compact console package. The result connects straightforward UNO rounds with a more structured mission journey built around its original boards, items, minigames, and card battles.
