About
LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga for Nintendo DS is a 2007 action-adventure game from TT Games, published by LucasArts. It gathers the LEGO retellings of Star Wars Episodes I through VI into one handheld package, blending characters, locations, and major set pieces from The Phantom Menace through Return of the Jedi. Rather than presenting the films as straight adaptations, it uses the series’ wordless comic style: familiar events play out with exaggerated LEGO animation while players take control of heroes, villains, droids, and other figures from across the two trilogies.
The central loop combines light combat, platforming, object-building, and simple environmental puzzles. Levels ask players to move through rooms and outdoor areas, break LEGO scenery into collectible studs, assemble useful devices from loose bricks, and use a character’s particular skills to clear obstacles. Jedi and Sith characters can manipulate objects with the Force, blaster users handle combat at range, and other abilities open routes or interactions that are unavailable to every character. Health is forgiving, so the focus stays on moving forward, experimenting with the scenery, and uncovering the many pieces tucked into each stage.
The Nintendo DS game was designed around the system’s two-screen format and touch controls. It has 30 levels made specifically for the handheld release, with a chapter omitted from each film episode because of DS cartridge limits. The stylus can be used for Force actions, while the traditional buttons remain available for play. Its levels cover scenes such as the chase after bounty hunter Zam Wesell, and the game also includes extra Bounty Hunter missions, Challenge Mode, additional Force powers, and DS-exclusive minigames. Vehicle sequences and character-driven tasks add variety to the on-foot exploration.
Progress begins in the Mos Eisley Cantina hub, where completed story content, extras, and multiplayer options are accessed. Story Mode assigns the characters appropriate to a scene, but completing a level opens it for Free Play with unlocked characters. That change is important for completion: alternate abilities can reveal new areas, collectibles, and puzzle solutions in stages already visited. The roster includes more than 160 playable characters, from major Jedi, Sith, Rebels, and Imperial figures to supporting characters such as Watto, Zam Wesell, and Boss Nass. A character customizer also lets players combine parts from different Star Wars characters into their own LEGO creation.
LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga builds on LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game and LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, while revising material for the combined release. The earlier games’ prequel and original-trilogy stories sit together in one journey, and familiar LEGO systems such as stud collecting, hidden minikits, unlockables, and replayable stages give the campaign a long-term collecting goal beyond simply reaching the ending. The game’s redesigned take on the saga made it a substantial portable Star Wars adventure rather than a direct copy of its console counterparts.
The Nintendo DS edition supports two-player local multiplayer. Each player needs their own game cartridge, and the connection is started from the Cantina, allowing companions to work through the brick-built galaxy together. With its mix of cooperative play, accessible action, collectible hunting, touch-screen features, and playful treatment of the first six Star Wars films, LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga remains a distinctive entry in the LEGO Star Wars series on Nintendo’s dual-screen handheld.
