About
Press Your Luck: 2010 Edition is Ludia's licensed adaptation of the 1980s television game show, published by Ubisoft for Nintendo DS in North America on October 27, 2009. It recreates the show's brightly colored studio, three-contestant format, theme music, and cartoon Whammy hazards in a portable trivia game.
An episode is divided into two question rounds and two Big Board rounds. Three contestants compete to build spins by answering general-trivia questions, then cash those spins in on the looping 18-space board for money, prizes, and score-changing opportunities. The contestant with the greatest total after the second board wins.
Questions begin as buzz-in toss-ups: a correct first response awards three spins, while the other contestants can earn a spin by selecting the correct multiple-choice answer. During the board rounds, players stop the cycling display to claim the lit result, deciding whether to keep pressing their luck or pass remaining spins to an opponent when the rules allow it.
The Whammies supply the central risk. Landing on one wipes out a contestant's accumulated cash and prizes and triggers one of the game's comic animations; a fourth Whammy removes that contestant from the game. Cash-and-spin spaces can extend a turn, while prizes join the running total, making a lead vulnerable until the final spins are used.
Solo Campaign follows a player through 20 shows against increasingly difficult opponents. Party Mode lets up to three people play an episode together on a single DS and game card. In the shared question round, one player uses the Touch Screen to buzz in while the other two use the shoulder buttons, fitting the show's simultaneous-contestant setup onto the handheld.
Players create an on-screen contestant by choosing facial features, hair, clothing, and other appearance options. Winning games unlocks additional costumes and hairstyles, and the presentation supplements its large trivia library with numerous Whammy animations. The result is a pick-up-and-play version of a game show built around quick answers, escalating totals, and the decision to stop before luck turns.
