About

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 for Nintendo DS is a 2010 action-adventure game from TT Games, published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. This handheld adaptation turns the first four Harry Potter stories—Philosopher's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, and Goblet of Fire—into a playful LEGO journey through Harry's early years at Hogwarts. Released for Nintendo DS in June 2010, it follows the major events of the books and films while reshaping them with the visual comedy, brick-built objects, and collectible-driven design associated with the LEGO video-game series.

The adventure progresses through missions based on each school year. Players guide Harry and other familiar characters through classrooms, corridors, outdoor locations, and story set pieces, completing objectives to move forward. Puzzle solving is central to the experience: obstacles often call for a particular character's ability, the right spell, or an interactive object in the environment. As tasks are completed, the game opens more of its magical world and rewards exploration with LEGO studs, secrets, and additional playable characters.

The Nintendo DS version makes the Touch Screen a key part of play. The stylus is used to direct a selected character and interact with the world, while spellcasting asks players to tap objects and trace spell patterns on the lower screen. Hogwarts lessons introduce magic that can then be applied during later challenges, including spells such as Lumos and Immobilus as well as transfiguration. Potion-making, broomstick sequences, and environmental puzzles add variety to the mission-to-mission routine instead of limiting the game to combat.

Harry, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, and a large supporting cast drawn from the first four stories appear in LEGO form. Their adventure begins with Harry's arrival in the wizarding world and continues through Hogwarts terms marked by mysteries, dangerous encounters, and the Triwizard Tournament. The game visits recognizable settings including Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Diagon Alley, and other places associated with the young wizard's first years. Its story scenes preserve the broad narrative of the source material while using wordless LEGO-style slapstick to give familiar moments a lighter tone.

This DS edition is not simply the larger home-console game squeezed onto a cartridge. Its interface and spell controls were designed around the handheld's two screens and stylus, making direct touch input part of both movement and magic. That platform-specific approach gives the game its own rhythm while retaining the series' emphasis on discovering hidden items, revisiting challenges, and experimenting with characters. The combination of accessible controls and layered collectibles encourages players to look beyond the immediate route through each adventure.

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 also established the first half of the LEGO Harry Potter game series, with LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 continuing the adaptation in 2011. For Nintendo DS players, it offers a self-contained tour of Harry's first four school years that combines licensed fantasy, puzzle-focused action, and the tactile appeal of the system's Touch Screen. Its focus on spells, character abilities, and LEGO reconstruction makes it a distinctive handheld take on the Wizarding World.
