About
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon SuperS: Fuwa Fuwa Panic is a Sailor Moon puzzle game for Nintendo's Super Famicom, released in Japan on December 8, 1995. Developed by Tom Create and published by Bandai, it adapts the SuperS-era look and cast of Naoko Takeuchi's manga and its television counterpart into a competitive balloon-clearing game. Its Japanese title, 美少女戦士セーラームーンSuperS ふわふわパニック, identifies it as a SuperS tie-in; this is the original Japanese release, rather than a Western SNES localization or one of the series' fighting games.
Matches take place in individual balloon pits that steadily fill from below. Each player moves a Sailor Guardian along the base of her field and fires upward to burst balloons. A shot clears the balloon it strikes along with connected balloons of the same color, so positioning and timing matter as the field grows more crowded. Gray balloons complicate the board because ordinary shots do not remove them directly; they have to be cleared by setting off colored groups beside them or by using the appropriate attacks. Letting the balloons spill beyond the top of the play area ends the round.
The game is built around head-to-head pressure as well as color matching. Players can trigger incoming waves sooner, while successful clears build an energy gauge and can send gray balloons to the other side. In versus and story play, the screen presents two fields at once, allowing a human player to face either another player or a computer-controlled opponent. A match is decided by taking two rounds, making recovery from a crowded board as important as assembling a large clear.
The controls remain direct but offer more than a single basic shot. The directional controls move the selected Guardian, A fires the normal upward attack, and B has two uses depending on the energy meter. With enough energy, it can call on Tuxedo Kamen to remove the upper row of balloons; when the gauge is full, it activates the chosen character's special attack instead. Pattern-based clears can also produce temporary items, adding altered shot behavior and other tactical options to the balloon-popping routine.
Fuwa Fuwa Panic draws its playable cast from the Sailor Guardians associated with the SuperS period, including Sailor Moon, Sailor Chibi Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus, Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, and Sailor Pluto. The cast gives the puzzle battles a distinctly Sailor Moon presentation while the character-specific specials encourage players to experiment with different approaches. A stage-clearing puzzle option sits alongside the competitive modes, shifting the emphasis from defeating an opponent to meeting the requirements of designed challenges.
As a Japan-only Super Famicom release, Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon SuperS: Fuwa Fuwa Panic occupies a different corner of the franchise's 16-bit catalog from its beat-'em-ups, role-playing game, and fighting titles. It was also part of Tom Create's run of Sailor Moon puzzle work on the system, following the company's 1994 Super Famicom puzzle game Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S: Kondo wa Puzzle de Oshiokiyo!. For players interested in Sailor Moon SuperS on Super Famicom, Fuwa Fuwa Panic pairs familiar heroines and animated-style flourishes with a fast, compact competitive puzzle format.
