About

Medarot Navi: Kabuto is a strategy RPG for Game Boy Advance, developed by Natsume and published by Imagineer in Japan on September 7, 2001. It is a Medarot side story built around a tactical form of the series’ robot battles.

Its protagonist, Kasumi, is a first-year student in Class B at Aozora Junior High. Guided by a voice, he enters the school’s unused old building and encounters a Medal and the Medarot called Mistral.

The discovery brings Kasumi and his classmates an invitation to Cluster, a space theme park developed by Robattle Research. An accident sends the unmanned Cluster out of Earth orbit with the class aboard, and Kasumi must locate his scattered classmates, work with them, and seek a way home.

The shared starting partner is Windclap. This Kabuto version adds Granbeetle, which later becomes Kaiser Beetle; Sonic Stag and its later form Luminous Stag belong to the separate Kuwagata version.

Robottles depart from the series’ earlier format with turn-based battles on a 9-by-9 grid, fielding up to five Medarots per side. Movement and attacks consume Action Points, making unit placement, turn order, and coordination with classmates central to the battles.
