About

Avatar: The Legend of Aang for Game Boy Advance is the European and Australian title for THQ's 2006 Avatar: The Last Airbender handheld adventure, released in Europe in February 2007. Developed by Halfbrick Studios with THQ Australia Studios and published by THQ, this version adapts Nickelodeon's animated series for Nintendo's portable system. It is a distinct 2D, overhead-style Game Boy Advance game rather than a direct copy of the home-console releases, while placing Aang's journey in the world of the Four Nations.

The single-player adventure follows Aang, Katara, Sokka and Haru. Players guide the group through connected locations, investigating trouble caused by the Fire Nation and its machines as the quest moves from Water Tribe territory toward the Earth Kingdom and beyond. The story is set between the first and second books of the television series, giving its familiar heroes an original conflict alongside characters and creatures drawn from the show’s setting.

Combat is built around assembling a party and using the strengths of its members. Aang, Katara, Haru and Sokka have different fighting styles, and victories provide experience that unlocks further special abilities. Elemental bending is central to the game’s identity: Aang’s airbending, Katara’s waterbending and Haru’s earthbending sit alongside Sokka’s more conventional combat role. Choosing who leads, managing the group’s abilities and responding to enemies makes the action more tactical than a simple one-character brawler.

Exploration also matters between fights. The party searches areas for useful equipment and quest items, with armor, chi-related items, enchanted accessories and healing supplies helping them prepare for later encounters. Resources found during the adventure can be taken to artisans to create special items, adding a light crafting and collection element to the trip. Firebenders, mechanical opponents and hostile wildlife provide the opposition as the heroes work through the game’s objectives.

Avatar: The Legend of Aang GBA arrives from a period when THQ released several games based on the series across different hardware, but Halfbrick’s cartridge version has its own presentation and development credits. North American players received it as Avatar: The Last Airbender in October 2006; the same Game Boy Advance game appeared in Europe and Australia under the Legend of Aang name. It was followed by the 2007 sequel Avatar: The Legend of Aang – The Burning Earth, also developed for the Game Boy Advance.
