About

Among Us for Gameboy is an unofficial Game Boy homebrew by ElectricMadnessYT, released as an update on 23 November 2021. It is a fan-made proof of concept inspired by Innersloth's social-deduction game, made for Game Boy-compatible hardware rather than as an official licensed release.

The project recreates the recognizable space-bound setting and small astronaut-like characters in the monochrome style and technical limits of Nintendo's original handheld. Its premise is a playful demake: translating a much newer online game into a form suited to an 8-bit platform from the late 1980s.

The available build uses a simple control scheme: the directional pad moves the character, while Start begins the game. The creator also provides browser and desktop versions alongside the Game Boy ROM, so the project can be sampled without original hardware as well as through an emulator or compatible device.

Rather than presenting a complete equivalent of the commercial Among Us, this release is documented as a work in progress and a proof of concept. Its appeal lies in seeing how the source game's visual identity and setting are interpreted within the far smaller scale of a Game Boy homebrew.

Among Us for Gameboy was entered in the 2021 Game Boy Competition, placing it within the contemporary GB Studio and independent Game Boy development scene. The release also includes source code, making it useful to players curious about the project and to homebrew developers interested in its construction.

This is not an official port by Innersloth or Nintendo, and it should be approached as a community-made fan project. Its 2021 release is a snapshot of an unfinished experiment rather than a replacement for the original multiplayer game.
