Slender - The 8 Pages

About

Slender: The 8 Pages for Game Boy Color is a 2021 homebrew horror demake by JWG.LLC. It adapts the central pursuit of the better-known 2012 Slender game for Nintendo’s color handheld hardware rather than presenting the original PC release itself. This compact Game Boy Color version sends the player into a dark outdoor setting with one clear objective: locate eight scattered pages while staying ahead of the creature closing in.

The premise is deliberately simple. Each page moves the run closer to completion, but collecting them also raises the pressure of the chase. Instead of supplying weapons or an elaborate story campaign, Slender: The 8 Pages focuses on navigation, searching, and the threat of being caught before the last page is found. The familiar eight-page objective makes every successful pickup both progress and another reason to keep moving.

As a Game Boy Color homebrew, the release reworks a modern internet-horror concept into a format associated with an earlier generation of portable games. Its pixel-based presentation and handheld perspective set it apart from the Unity-built 2012 original, which was released for Windows and Mac OS X by Parsec Productions. The GBC game is therefore best understood as an unofficial demake inspired by that premise, not as a contemporary commercial conversion from the original developer.

The source material is rooted in the Slender Man creepypasta phenomenon, and the Game Boy Color version retains its defining adversary: the tall, faceless stalker pursuing the player’s search. The tension comes from the clash between an easy-to-understand task and an increasingly dangerous situation. Finding a page is only useful if the player can continue long enough to find the next one, making exploration and route choices central to a successful attempt.

Slender: The 8 Pages is a single-player Game Boy Color homebrew release that arrived in November 2021. It has also been recognized by RetroAchievements as a GBC homebrew, where its goals center on collecting each of the eight pages and completing the full set quickly. For players interested in horror demakes, creepypasta-inspired games, or unusual late-era software for classic hardware, it offers a concise handheld interpretation of a prominent 2010s indie-horror idea.
