About
Released in Japan for Game Boy Color on October 29, 1999, Medarot 2: Parts Collection is a companion role-playing game to Medarot 2. Natsume developed it and Imagineer published it. Unlike Medarot 2's separate Kabuto and Kuwagata editions, Parts Collection is a single release built around expanding a player's collection rather than retelling the main game's full adventure.
The player controls Ikki Tenryou, the protagonist of Medarot 2. Its deliberately compact story begins after an alien spacecraft crashes and disturbs space-time. An old man named Hoketa drops the Fuyun Stone he received from the aliens; when it shatters, both Ikki and the RoboRobo Gang acquire fragments.
The aliens turn their ship into Fuyun Tower and take Ikki aboard. His objective is to recover every shard of the Fuyun Stone while fighting upward through the tower. This premise gives the add-on its own scenario, but keeps the focus on Robattle encounters and the rewards they provide rather than on the longer town-to-town progression of Medarot 2.
At the start, Ikki can choose a Kabuto- or Kuwagata-type setup, matching the two opposing Medarot families associated with the main game. The choice determines his initial Medal and Medarot, while later rewards support experimentation with different bodies and equipment. Medals and parts are central to how a Medarot is assembled and used in battle, so acquiring alternatives changes the tactical options available to the player.
Fuyun Tower is organized as a sequence of floors populated by Medafighters. Defeating the opponents on a floor opens the way to the next one, and each victory grants the parts needed to complete a Medarot set. The structure makes repeated Robattles a direct collection loop: advance, win a set of parts, and build a broader inventory for future combinations.
The game serves as a practical expansion for Medarot 2: it makes the parts and Medals from the preceding title available to collect, including material associated with both main-game versions. Acquired parts can be transferred by Game Link Cable into Medarot 2, allowing the short side game to supply equipment that a player can use in the larger Kabuto or Kuwagata adventure.
