Wizardry : Llylgamyn Saga

Wizardry: Llylgamyn Saga is a Japanese PlayStation compilation that revisits the first three Wizardry scenarios: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord, The Knight of Diamonds, and Legacy of Llylgamyn. The March 2002 release represented here is the SuperLite Gold reissue of a collection first issued for PlayStation in 1998.

The game preserves the series' party-based dungeon-crawling structure. Players build an adventuring party, choose from the familiar character classes, equip it in town, and take it into dangerous labyrinths where progress depends on careful exploration, resource management, and surviving encounters.

Exploration is presented from a first-person viewpoint, with movement through grid-based passages and rooms. Combat uses the command-driven, turn-based approach associated with the early Wizardry games, asking the player to choose attacks, spells, items, defensive actions, or attempts to flee for each party member.

Its three scenarios retain the linked Llylgamyn setting and the escalating challenges of the original trilogy. Each has its own dungeon layouts, objectives, monsters, treasures, and threats, while the collection gives players a single package through which to experience the foundational sequence of the series.

Llylgamyn Saga updates the older adventures with console-oriented presentation. It offers rendered dungeon graphics while retaining an optional wireframe-style view, and its monster artwork can likewise be switched to an older visual style. These choices let players balance the collection's newer look with an approximation of its earlier presentation.

The PlayStation edition also includes an on-demand automap function, making navigation through the games' dense mazes more manageable. Beneath those conveniences, it remains a deliberately methodical fantasy role-playing collection built around mapping, party preparation, tactical battles, and the risk of losing an unprepared expedition.
